    Futures expiration and IB

loufah, Thanks. Again, I'm not blaming Def. Apologize if my posts sound that way. In fact, I applaud Def for being candid and sending all of the good links. One of the worst things about this incident was- "at the end of the day" last Friday, TWS was showing me a net liquidation value...

    Futures expiration and IB

mskl. You need to make an effort to understand what I'm talking about. We are not talking about trading and order flows. I am interested in the expiration price of a derivative that tracks an underlying. An in-the-money option for example should, upon expiration, be exactly equal to the...

    Futures expiration and IB

Def, This is just a moot point. Just because people can accurately follow some rules and calculate values in a spreadheet does not make it a good value. Now Russell or CME could very well have set some "ultra-special" opening price rule where the settlement is based on the average of the...

    Futures expiration and IB

Stock777, Yeah, the ER2 JUNE 853.5 was almost close to ER2 SEP 856. And that's what irritates me. For properly functioning futures market, futures should expire into the cash market at expiration, here the futures actually came close to expiring into the further out SEP contract. Def...

    Futures expiration and IB

Def, Thanks for providing the CME links. I just re-read the settlement rules to confirm my understanding. Page 3 clearly says that the final settlement price of the Russell 2000 futures is the "opening price of the underlying index" on the 3rd friday of the expiration month. Just so...

    Futures expiration and IB

Thanks guys. IB did not give me any warnings, and so I held it to close, thinking that the futures should settle the same as the underlying cash index close. So ER2 should have settled at 848. But hey, IB did me a great favor and closed at 855, and ripped $6k from my account.

    Futures expiration and IB

Its' been a while since I posted. I hope some members can help me here. Has anyone ever let their futures positions expire at IB? (ER2 or other GLOBEX index futures). IB says it liquidates positions. If the positions are liquidated only after expiration, does IB close positions based on...

    RSS market data feed

Does anyone have a link to an RSS feed which can retrieve market quotes for a portfolio (say from yahoo finance) and publish it to my reader ? I'm not talking about market news (plenty of rss feeds on news), but in the quotes. (delayed quotes 30 min is ok). Thanks for the help, in advance.

market behavior in a recession/leading up to

That was funny. Lol. An inverted yield curve does not necessarily point to recession (although it has had ~80% success). Obviously, there are many other factors (credit spreads, banctruptcies etc), that even when put together cannot forecast a recession 100%. Incidentally, there are several...

    Crash is Upon Us

larry (kudlow), abby (cohen) and other bulls, no need to panic. Please step in and buy these dips, and hold for 10 years.. Fundamentals look great. forward 1 yr P/E ratio 14, 5 yr forward P/E ~10, 10yr forward P/E only 7.. End of rate hikes just around the corner. no inflation in sight...

Jim Rogers on Bloomberg 11am ET

This is precisely the reason why I respect Jim. He does put his money where his mouth his.. In fact, from what I hear, he has sold his NY home, and is short several dollar denominated assets and is moving out of the US and into China.. And indeed has bought property in Angola.. As far as...

Yes or No:"Fully hedged portfolios are not risk free"?

The question is more of a philosophical one, as you gotta define what you mean by hedging in the first place. As many of expressed, there is no such thing as a fully hedged risk-free portfolio. Every portfolio is hedged only with respect to specific components of risk, but exposed to...

collecting premium for a risk free 2 digit return

These kinds of opportunities do exist. There are many times when cash-futures spread basis goes out of whack. You need to act immediately. You can play this basis in many ways- long/short ETF/futures, or synthetic long/short ETF/futures or vice versa. I personally simply take a naked...

Jim Rogers on Bloomberg 11am ET

Jim Rogers is eccentric, but a very original thinker.. For all the garbage that comes out mainstream newsmedia, it is refreshing to hear him. Each one of the points he mentioned (if he said it at all) have much validity and substance.

    Leverage on equity invesments

This question may have been posted elsewhere, however I wasn't getting much in ET or google search. What is the maximum leverage you can get to trade equities? (2:1 is standard). Are there brokers that let you make spot market investments (e.g. equities)- say with 10:1 (similar to...

    cody willard

I cannot belive cnbc pays these guys- Cody, kudlow and his company. The other day, I recall cody blab something on Soros' reflexivity and inflation.. and that he likes to trade the market now, given the volatility.. but wait- he maintains a position in cash and microsoft. so what was he...

Sometimes You eat the Bear and sometimes the bear eat YOU!!

I hope Larry kudlow puts his money where his mouth his. The obnoxious rat is so pathetic. Just last year- he was singing on TV- that the fed tightening was over (at 4.25%), no evidence of inflation... Last month, this bitch wanted the fed to raise 50 bps to control inflation.. And then he...

    Interactive Brokers Stop orders

Hi winter, no offense. I just get put off with comments like- " you have no business trading", etc etc. I see quite a bit of it in ET. What do these really mean? I dont' know about you, but I trade because I like to and have a basic understanding of markets. (My confidence may not be...
