When Should I sell my OIL ETF

Robinhood vs the world - any RH traders here?

I trade option spreads, so I trade large numbers of contracts. At RH I do not have to pay a per-contract fee, which at other firms comes to maybe 50 cents to 65 cents per contract. Not having to pay that fee can save me hundreds of dollars on any given spread.

Zero commissions- how has your trading changed?

Beware the per-contract fee on options trades at most brokers. 65 cents per contract on a 200 contract iron condor (50 contracts on each of four legs) comes to $130. There is a 5% cap at Fidelity, but at Robinhood there are no fees per contract. I believe that TradeZero America also has no fees...

Schwab cuts commissions to zero on US stocks, options and ETFs

Yes, Trader99, maybe many options traders will meet that $50,000 account requirement for free ZeroPro. Thanks for mentioning that real trading platform.

Schwab cuts commissions to zero on US stocks, options and ETFs

Thanks, trader99. It looks like there are monthly fees for some, though, with Tradezero America. This is from an 08/05/2019 review on Investopedia: "TradeZero has three software platforms available, plus a mobile app that any customer can use for free. Their top of the line downloadable...

Schwab cuts commissions to zero on US stocks, options and ETFs

Saving $4.95 on an options trade doesn't mean much for a lot of us if you're still paying $0.65 per contract. Robinhood does not charge a commission OR a per-contract fee on options trades. Does TradeZero charge per contract?

Who is writing 1 or 2 or 3 unit option contracts?

I often get fills comprising batches of little fills with Robinhood, but not with other brokers. I trade spreads.

After several years, I found the WORST broker to avoid.

The problem that I had with E-Trade, and the reason why I left them, was that the numbers on their trading platform did not match the numbers on their confirmations. The confirmations were correct, but the numbers on the trading platform were off. There were small discrepancies which could be...

GLD Options Treated as 1256 Contracts by E-Trade

You're welcome! The E-Trader 1099-B was a little confusing at first, because on the first page "Totals Summary" the results of the transactions in GLD options are listed under "Regulated Futures Contracts," but down in the details they are listed under "Regulated Futures Contracts, Foreign...

GLD Options Treated as 1256 Contracts by E-Trade

I used four brokerages in 2018 and when going over their 1099-B's I noticed that E-Trade is the only one that treats options on GLD as 1256 contracts. Gains and losses on those options, if they are reported on an E-Trade 1099-B, are therefore treated for tax purposes as 40% short term and 60%...

    Going Through Call Option Expiration

But the question is not about in the money short options. It is about in the money long options, which give the holder the right but not the obligation to exercise. There are good reasons why the holder might not wish to exercise an in the money long option at any time prior to expiration, and...

Selling ATM options with hedge better than selling naked OTM?

Rolling won't necessarily or automatically protect you. It might even compound your losses. By the way, when I said that you're better off setting up tighter credit spreads farther out of the money and just setting up a lot of them to compensate for the lower premiums they earn, I should have...

Selling ATM options with hedge better than selling naked OTM?

Short&naked, it sounds like you're asking about trading vertical credit spreads with a lot of distance between your long and short options so that you get more premium for the short position and spend less on the long position than you would if the gap between the long and short positions were...

    Going Through Call Option Expiration

I think your question about ITM long options is a good one. I've read that the "exercise by exception" or "automatic exercise" rules pertaining to ITM long options are for the convenience of brokers who don't want to make decisions about individual accounts on a case-by-case basis, and I've also...

Robinhood Options trading something to think about

In my post entitled "Value or necessity of telephone customer support" I mention similar misgivings about Robinhood. I will also be closing my account there.

Value or necessity of telephone customer support

Sorry, I forgot to answer your question about the opening and closing auctions, and the answer is that I do not know. Their toll free number is available online -- I don't know whether we're allowed to post phone numbers to businesses in this forum.

Value or necessity of telephone customer support

Yes, that's why I never traded with IBKR. I did a little customer support experiment with them and it did not go well. Robinhood at least is very responsive by email, although there is no phone support with them last time I checked.

Value or necessity of telephone customer support

The difference between 50 cents per contract (Ally) and 65 cents per contract (Fidelity, where I do most of my trading) is significant to me. I trade spreads and condors for income, so I have to buy and sell large numbers of contracts. I do some of my online banking at Ally Bank, so when they...

Value or necessity of telephone customer support

Today I had to call telephone customer support at Ally Invest to close out both spreads on an iron condor. One of the two spreads was composed of very cheap options for which the market was thin, so all four legs wouldn't close out online, but the trader I contacted at Ally telephone customer...
