Update on my trading positions: I liquidated about 25% of my NXPI position at a big loss..holding the remaining still at a loss after last month's merger collapse. My tribune and synaptics position were also closed at a loss, together with NXPI losses which amounts to a big loss for the month...

i sold a few NXPI Jan 2020 $90 puts for about $6.20 average... if the merger goes forward, the options will accelerate and close, netting me all the premium... if merger does not go forward, I will buy NXPI at $90 per share if the options got exercised.

Sold Convergys at a slight loss... merger announcement came soon after I bought but the cash and share offered at $28 didn't offer much premium and the stock fell slightly below my purchase price

I agree its not low risk... merger arbs are not for faint of heart.. the risks are in the tail end and even the most secure mergers can fail...

It's possible to do it for a small trader... I have deployed max close to 1 mil but i have been doing it for only 2 years...not much of an record...

i was affected too... i moved some capital to IG markets at a higher margin cost...abt 2.5% + base... execution and fill wasn't on par with IB also... i think you can explore Degiro..their margin cost seemed ok but I'm not sure if their offerings is right for u...
