Many have lost money trying developments, and failing. Buying and holding (in both RE and Stocks) is a safer bet for the general public.

A good point Handle - if returns are similar holding a portfolio of well performing businesses, why would you bother staring at a screen all day?

Thanks for the reality check.... It seems the time may not be worth it - In 15 years, the development business will have grown to a point where I most definitely won't care about the trading income.

That's where I could struggle Lawrence - I don't like the art part. I like clear cut rules to follow, that stack the probability in my favour.

Definitely would never make a complete switch, I love doing developments. There's a tangible element that's not replicated in any other business. Completely different and new world! It's so incredibly bizarre, that with the correct clicks of a mouse, the elite traders make triple digit annual...

Thanks Lawrence. I honestly have no idea what to expect to receive. If you said, the top quartile of day traders is only making 10% pa, I'd say I'll stick to receiving lower rates on term deposits. Developing is also gambling, in some respects. Appreciate the honesty The time between acquisition, plan development, planning approval, pre sales, finance, site start, completion of construction, settlements etc does not happen overnight. Saying "streamline the process" is like saying "make more money from your trading".

G’day folks, I do medium density residential property developments - return on invested capital (with leverage) is generally in the order of 25-50% per annum, depending on speed of sales. As the cash flow is extremely lumpy (it’s 12-24 months from acquisition to seeing funds returned, and...
