Is It Smart to Trade in US Stocks if You Are Based in the Philippines?

none, if you are a foreigner. You're only obliged to pay taxes on money made IN the Philippines. But you mentioned you're citizen, so I'm really not sure. Best to check with a local tax advisor.

update on trade desks in Vancouver?

I had communicated with Rob @ bright last year. They don't have an office anymore and just run everything remotely. Need $50K min deposit and series 7. Their commission rates were not really that impressive, I get better with my current broker. Be interested to know if there are any serious...

Update on Philippine Internet Connectivity (and Beach Resorts)

yeah, that's why i say fiber is the only way to go here, DSL and 3G is dogsh*t. I've been using fiber for 4 months now and it's exceeded my expectations, it's only gone down on me once for an hour or so. the speed fluctuates between 30-50MBps, but I can live with that vs pulling my hair out...

Update on Philippine Internet Connectivity (and Beach Resorts)

fair enough, I've never heard of them, perhaps I was misinformed. To clarify, I'm not saying they are the only ones offering fiber, just the only ones (to my knowledge, at least) with their own cabling. My understanding is PLDT owns the bulk of the infrastructure nationwide, Globe has some...

Update on Philippine Internet Connectivity (and Beach Resorts)

Globe and PLDT are the only companies with any cable infrastructure to speak of. Any other internet company in Phils just leases the lines from them. I only pay 2499P/mo for it, pretty reasonable. But the catch is its a 2yr contract and you have to be in certain buildings. more deets here...

Update on Philippine Internet Connectivity (and Beach Resorts)

If you plan on spending any length of time in the Philippines, you're better off getting fiber optic line with PLDT or Globe, currently it's only available in certain buildings and subdivisions but it's the closest thing to first world internet speeds (see attached). Anything on mobile...

Is It Smart to Trade in US Stocks if You Are Based in the Philippines?

Hey, thought I'd chime in here. I'm based in Manila and day trade the US stock and futures market. Yes, the hours suck, but I've always been a night owl anyway. I sometimes trade the eurex open in the afternoons, but i generally do better in the U.S. markets so keep finding myself up all...
