Are you sure IB is understanding your question ? It sounds like they are answering weather or not you can "cross" between the accounts mentioned. That would definately not be allowed by IRS REGS. 2 differently titled account in the same household is not an issue at any BD I know of.

You sure ? Quick look at a dailey chart it would have gotten you out and back in at advantageous levels in 08/09'and 2011 and 2016 while keeping you in the trending bull at other times. Again, I'm just eye balling with some quick calculations, no back testing and not including tax ramifications...

Have you ever looked at the 20 MA on the SPY in this regard ? Certainly a lot of whip saws, but my quick calculation (not true backtest and only for approx 1 yr) has it up about 14 % from 2/2/18 until today. About 21 trades , go long if it closes above the 20 MA, sell to cash if closing below.

You are correct, but just like my shorting a competitor....the nominal gains after the cost of premium (as you stated) negates a lot of the potential benefits. To the OP, Manage your size and be an engineer. IMHO.

Having gone through this, hedging for a potential 10 percent move on a restricted position is prob not worth the effort. I've done it in my own situation (financial) by shorting a competitor....it worked, but at the end the nominal net move was not that significant. I think the bigger issue...
