    VXX and buy put

Noticed you have asked several questions regarding VXX that can easily be found using google. I literally typed 'vxx reverse split options' and the answer is in the first result: https://sixfigureinvesting.com/2013/08/next-vxx-reverse-split/

    How does VXX work

I believe the VXX has done 4 reverse splits since 2010. They have occurred when VXX was in the low teens or just under $10. One would expect that the next reverse split occurs when VXX reaches $10 again, but who knows.

    I am the best!

I also scour through the Aus stock forums (as I'm based in Aus) and I do remember seeing Kaveman's name. You're lucky that you have him as a mentor. I'm just beginning my trading journey and I wish I can can get a mentor some day and point me in the right direction. I'm currently just trying to...

QQQ trade idea (or spy with other companies)

It' true that you will reduce the exposure to IV drop, but you're also limiting your exposure to underlying movement. So you're effectively limiting risk and profit potential at the same time.

BABA strange IV profile going into earnings

Alibaba will report its earnings on May 4th. Usually the front month option should have higher IV than the back month, i.e. May05 & May12 should have higher IV than May19. I tried to find any special events that will occur before May19 but could not find anything. What am I missing here? Can we...

Long straddle into earnings, opening before IV increase, and closing before IV crush

Yes I have noticed the premature IV crush you mentioned. I was thinking of holding the position until 1-2 weeks prior to earning. Please note that I haven't thoroughly tested this, but the idea is to enter as IV is rising so that vega hedges some theta decay. And hope for a large movement. I...

Long straddle into earnings, opening before IV increase, and closing before IV crush

If the market expects a big move on a particular option, and options value have gone up, that means IV is already high, right? What if you enter the position before the the IV increase and just prior to the market expecting a big move. Or is this timing too difficult to gauge?

Long straddle into earnings, opening before IV increase, and closing before IV crush

From my understanding straddle price should increase going into earnings (due to rise in IV), and should be able to offset if not overcome theta decay. However, Tasty trade has covered this topic and mentioned that straddles do not increase in value despite IV increasing going into earnings...

Calendars, how to not lose when you are (too) right?

I didn't mean to come off as confrontational. Just wanted to be concise, that's all. *fist bump* :)

Calendars, how to not lose when you are (too) right?

Bear call diagonal spread in your example is bullish only because of the Calendar spread component of it. Not the Call spread component. To return to OP's original inquiry, if you want to make no losses if the underlying gaps up, you would need to have a bull call diagonal spread.

Calendars, how to not lose when you are (too) right?

Ofcourse you wouldn't buy the w2 call @ 115. This will make a bear call diag spread. OP was after a position that will profit if underlying increases.

Calendars, how to not lose when you are (too) right?

    I don't see why a diagonal wouldn't work. e.g. -buy week2 call @ $105 -sell week1 call @ $110

Earnings reports from 'Earnings Whispers' site

Hi Guys, just wondering if anyone has used earnings whispers to get a better indicator for earnings. Here's an explanation of the indicators they have: To those who use it, have you been having success with it? To those who choose not to use it, any reasons in particular? Any comments will...

Calendar spread value relative to IV

Just to clarify, are you shorting credit spreads on the front month option after earnings, with strike being the break even points? Regarding waiting till the last hour, I often see that highest IV occurs not long after the earning date confirmation, not at the last moment prior to the actual...
