    Starting a hedge fund

...the numbers so far are not that good, at least my spread sheet does not agree with the Yahoo numbers. But so far, the buy and hold is up 11.03% for the year as compared to a remix model which only beats it by 0.07%...hardly worth the effort and commissions assuming one were to actually use...

    Starting a hedge fund

...couple of things, one I've started a paper fund to showcase my methodology for anyone interested (actually, I won't showcase that much, just generalities). This paper fund is different than the idiot model I've been talking about, which is still very useful and would return better than most...

If I recall correctly, that guy you mentioned was doing fund timing which is now illegal.

    Starting a hedge fund

There's alot of truth to that. Many who invest in mutual funds are always chasing the year's best performers, which in many cases turn out to be next year's biggest losers. I have a very simple weighting method that I apply to stocks and funds which discounts the most recent performance in...

    Starting a hedge fund

Some more from his book... he claims that the median return for all hedge funds for the 6 year period ('98~2003) was 7.8%, compared to the SP500 which returned only 3.8% annually over that period. He said that the fund of funds return was only 6.3%! My model's returns for that period were...

    Starting a hedge fund

I picked up bigg's book the other day while waiting for the movies to start and found some more data on funds that corroborates what I posted initially. The average fund has lousy returns, and the average fund of funds has even poorer returns but smaller drawdowns. I can't help but focus on the...

    Starting a hedge fund

As many have already pointed out, I'll have a hard time selling this without a few years of results, so that's what I need to start on. I have mixed results from trading over the past few decades, nothing to write home about. Lots of tuition paid. My plan discussed in this thread has nothing...

    Starting a hedge fund

I have some comparison's with the S&P 500 over the past 7 years which proves my point that my mix is a conservative, non-correlated plan (and I understand that backtesting is no guarantee of future success, but if you knew how simple my plan is you might think otherwise): 2006: -0.65% worse...

    Starting a hedge fund

I found it. And after reading that entire thread I've got to say that doesn't sound like much fun. I'm not sure what I was thinking...I guess I thought it would be fun to make money for others but it sounds too much like work, ie tedium. I appreciate all the responses from yesterday.

***my First Post*** LONG OVER DUE UPDATE!!!!!!

I can only give advise that works for me, it may not work for Itrade, but my advise is to get Stan Weinstein's book and read it a couple of times and even if you fully understand it it will take a couple of years to fully grasp its approach and how good it is. You'll also find that as you grow...

Not sure what bench marks most funds use for comparison sake, but the S&P seems to be quoted quite often and is really no comparison or valuable benchmark. The QQQQ's have had a negative return over most of this decade.

Thanks man, I appreciate your advise and opinion. Just curious, why did you start your fund and has that reason been met?

    Starting a hedge fund

Interesting idea, ie the off-shore account. If you have any suggestions on how to get started along that path I'd appreciate them...or if anyone else has any ideas/comments, please share. I knew that this would be the best site to get ideas and opinions and sincerely appreciate everyone's input.

    Starting a hedge fund

Lets see if I can answer that without divulging too much info. I just don't want to make it too easy for someone to duplicate this methodology. I ran the model based on 4 different re-balancing time frames, and I came up with one that was better than all the others by a fairly decent margin...

    Starting a hedge fund

I'm sure you are at least 99% correct and I appreciate your comments and all the others who have responded. If nothing else it will make me think hard about this and whether or not I can do the hard work required. The easy part has been done, well, at least the fun part. I didn't expect...

    Starting a hedge fund

I've traded real money for decades so I have something to go by. At the very least, I know how hard it is to be successful at trading day in and day out. My model is hardly a trading model and I'm hoping that that will be one of its selling points. But you're right, I have no track record...

    Starting a hedge fund

Its not a market timing model per se, and I'd rather not say how often since I had to work pretty hard at figuring that out. Sorry.
