There is no low risk way to start. Secondly risk and measures of risk is very subjective and each individual may look at things very differently. With regard to spreads - besides what you mentioned about the risk of margin - depending on what spreads you trade - at times, the outrights can move...

Spread trading is thought to be less risky than outright positions - and in some cases it is - and in some cases it is much riskier.

I looked up the background of the "experts" that are speaking at the show - and most of the so called "experts" have plenty to talk about but do not trade any client money - I guess they need to find more people to sell their systems too in order to make money !
