Whether an options writer or buyer has better edge? Why?

Warren Buffett. He sells puts all the time. Not sure if there is any particular "edge" one way or another in simple buying or writing, but I prefer to write. Think of options as insurance...usually the guy who sells it makes money.

    Gasparino Hacking Away Again

Gasparino is such an idiot. The only person on CNBC I like is Rick Santelli. Greenspan is a private citizen and can say whatever he wants, so what, if the market listens to his comments, it only shows he has credibility.

    Warren "Buffed it" buffet !

Warren is getting 10% a year on his prefererreds, and his warrants last for 5 years. I would bet that in the long term, he is going to make out like a bandit on these deals. In his NY Times piece, Buffet even explicitly stated he doesn't know where the market is going in the short term...

    What's NYC latest unemployment rate?

I think you missed my point. NY is more than just sell side bankers, heck Wall St. is more than just sell side bankers. You're pretty naive if you think a ton of hedgies didn't make serious coin on Lehman's demise. One man's bust is another's boom--that's the nature of the market. Trust me...

    What's NYC latest unemployment rate?

Crgarcia is correct. There is so much wealth (both US and foreign) in Manhattan. A few newly poor i-bankers isn't even going to make a dent. An example of high end real estate thats selling quite well, not that anyone from Lehman will be living here...

    Paulson: 'The Worse Is Over'...

I want to know what John thinks, not Henry. John is the Paulson whose opinion matters on Wall St. these days.

why trade prop when you can retail daytrade futures with same 20:1 margin

To the best of my knowledge, Americans cannot trade CFDs. You'd probably have to form an offshore company, etc to get around these rules. Probably not worth it for most. Stick to options and futs.

Goldman CEO may break bonus record

That works out to just under $700K per Goldman employee. Whose doing the number crunching at FT? Obviously not traders (or not very good ones).

    Is US$ in oversold territory?

NFP came in at almost double expectations, the fed did cut, but the statement was clearly hawkish. I expect a dollar rally soon and venture this is a good greenback buying opp.

What pair do you prefer to trade and why?

I like this pair for several reasons. It's awesome for carry trades if you are long. Also great to be short this one if there is equity market panic (e.g. subprime stuff). One can make serious bank on this if you use trailing stops and in general tread cautiously. Obviously stop loss...

    Need reccs/advice on prop. firms

Fellow traders, This is my situation. I've been trading profitably part time (and working full time) on my own accounts for a few years now. I trade equities, options, futures, fx...my trading is only limited by the opportunities I see to gain an edge. I will be leaving my job and...

Newbie looking for good index futures firm.

I'm looking to trade Dow minis and Nasdaq futures, what are some good firms you guys recommend to open an account with? Also, where is a good place I can learn more about index futures trading. Books? Web sites? I'm a newbie at this, but actively trade other instruments. Thank you.

    The EURO

"Well, it also did not go lower." Well, it wasn't suppossed to. The report should have bode more well for the Euro than for the greenback. Think about it, the Euro opened the year at around 1.18 and save the FOMC report, there isn't that much reason for this bullishness, especially in light...

    Usd/jpy

It's been riding the cottails of EUR/JPY for a while now. I was long on the USD/JPY last night, bought at 115.93, and closed out at 116.41 (limit was 116.50, but I saw significant resistance above the 116.30 range and EUR may be weakening across the board).

    The EURO

The ISM report couldn't even carry the Euro higher. It seems the Euro is artificially high right now from the FOMC minutes. Of course the jobs report tomorrow is important. I'm short at 1.2108.
