    Dividends with ADR stocks

Hi All, For foreign stocks traded on the NYSE or NASDAQ which pay dividends, how much does the stock holder receive? Is it the amount listed on Google/Yahoo Finance, or is it less due to foreign taxes or fees or whatnot? Thanks! :)

    Newbie Stock Picking Help...

Hi All, I was hoping to get some advice with stock picking for my IRA account. I am considering investing in CAT and DE and didn't know which one was "better." I know CAT is the world's largest construction machinery maker and DE is the world's largest farming equipment maker, but they both...

Thanks everyone, I now have a plethora of advice! My cousin used to tell me the old adage of "Winners never quit, Quitters never win!" I'm not ready to quit and damn it, with hard work I can succeed in investing. It takes time and work, but it's possible! :)

    Investing in Whiskey?

I agree with Gyles! Alcohol makers usually have steady business throughout different cycles. I for one, like to invest in BF.B, the parent company of Jack Daniels, Finlandia, SoCo, etc. I think like KO or PEP, long term, drink makers with international presences are worth taking a look at for...

    Dividends on OTC Stocks

Hi All, If I buy stock in a foreign company who is listed on the OTC market and pays a dividend, would I get the dividend like I would normally with a NYSE or NASDAQ stock? For example, LVMUY or SMUUY (a Thai bank) both pay dividends but are OTC listed stocks. Thanks! :)

Thanks, I will try that too! That really seems like a neat system and has its opportunities too. I hadn't heard of that before, but I am interested in it. I agree too that paper trading and backtesting are good tools too!

Thanks! Do you do covered calls on the weeklies, or just calls? Also, do you do weeklies on the big dollar stocks, like MA, PCLN, AAPL, ISRG, etc?

    Starting with $10k

Hi All, Thanks for the many replies! I know if I started with $10k and stayed in stocks and covered calls it would be a long road to wealth through steady returns and many years for the money to grow. If I ventured into options, I could make decent money after a lot of practice, but I would...

How do the big boys 'talk' to each other during trading session?

That about sums up my life, but that happens whether I deal with the stock market or without it! :D

How do the big boys 'talk' to each other during trading session?

I agree, great point! Plus, the old adage, it takes money to make money. If you have $100k and earn 10%, there's $10k. But if you have $100 million or $500 million.....

    1. Is true, it's all in my head, not in the trades, per se. 2. I agree, I need to treat it like I am doing it as a job; i.e. if I were investing that money for someone else, would I just trade on whims and good intentions? Not so much. 3. I would like to have returns of 10% or more in up...

I agree too. I think they can be decent for covered calls, but other than that, it takes some skill to trade them.

It definitely was, I can't argue with that :( . I never stopped to think about the volatility crunch; at first I was excited that the stock went up, then I looked online and saw the option chain's value had plummeted, I was like, wtf?? Very nice, that would be a good return!

    Starting with $10k

Hi All, In a nutshell, I have tried and failed miserably with stock trading for the past few years, but I have also learned a lot. In the past, I tried to invest with a measly $1k or $2k (sadly, not a typo) and I got my rear kicked since I wouldn't diversify, I didn't have enough capital, I...
