Will a new corporate activity (i.e., gross sales) tax in OR affect day traders?

Thanks again tiddly. I just spoke to the Ohio Dept of Taxation and they confirmed what you said that if I treat it as a business my trading would be subject to the CAT tax. The guy even went so far as to say "yeah, you probably wouldn't want to move here." WTH? Oh well. Time to give Green...

Will a new corporate activity (i.e., gross sales) tax in OR affect day traders?

Thank you tiddly! The other constraint of the Oregon law is that the tax is limited to commercial activity within the state of Oregon, which I think exempts my trades from the tax.

Just bumping this. Any ETers have any clue as to if this affects active stock traders?

Will a new corporate activity (i.e., gross sales) tax in OR affect day traders?

This was just signed into law by the governor of OR and will go into effect 1/1/20. "The Corporate Activity Tax, created by House Bill 3427, imposes a $250 tax on the first $1 million of gross receipts after subtractions and 0.57% tax on gross receipts greater than $1 million after...

Issue with Yahoo Historical Data today

I'm only able to get data through 4/16, meaning the 4/17 OHLC does not show up for any ticker. Is anyone else having this problem?

Trying to get a snapshot of realtime pricing of 600+ equities

Even though I've done some VB programming on Excel, I'm still very much a non-programmer. Unfortunately OHLC + Vol is a necessity, so I think Bob is right and I should just stick with Yahoo. I was just hoping there was something out there that would save me a few steps since I'm rushing to...

Trying to get a snapshot of realtime pricing of 600+ equities

Hi braincell. So, to be clear, I can do a larger number of tickers if I turn snapshot on, but I can't get OHLC + Vol?

Trying to get a snapshot of realtime pricing of 600+ equities

ET Community, I'm testing an equities strategy that requires that I get a snapshot of the OHLC + vol of potentially >600 tickers a few minutes before the close. I tried to use the IB tws excel file connected to the IB api, but it chokes on that many tickers (I suspect because it's constantly...

Market Scanner error on IB ActiveX API Excel spreadsheet

Not that anyone would care, but I spoke to someone at the IB API group and got it fixed. Apparently the problem was that in the Location Code column I had "STK.NASDAQ, STK.NYSE, STK.AMEX", and that was causing the problem (though it was working every day for the past year and a half). He told...

Market Scanner error on IB ActiveX API Excel spreadsheet

I've been using the ActiveX Excel spreadsheet every day for over a year now and suddenly this morning I'm encountering the following error when I attempt to initiate a market scan: "Error: 162 Historical Market Data Service error message:Error: You cannot combine locations from different...

Question re: 8949 vs 1099-B for Wash Sales

Thanks for your reply Mr. Green. One follow-up question: In a perfect world where the wash sale loss disallowed is correctly calculated by the broker, should the total adjustments on the 8949 equal the reported 1099-b Box 5 for covered securities (assuming only equities being traded in a...

Question re: 8949 vs 1099-B for Wash Sales

Come to think of it, I don't see anywhere else in the tax return where 1099-b Box 5 gets reported. So, how does it even affect your reported gains?

Question re: 8949 vs 1099-B for Wash Sales

So can someone please settle for me what needs to reconcile between the 1099-B issued by my broker and the form 8949 that I file with my Schedule D? I trade only in equities and I have wash sales through the year, some of which do carry over to the next tax year. I'm certain that the total...

4 things the goverment can do right now to make the US economy Roar

The quickest way to get the economy going again is to deregulate the US energy industry, and most of it can be done with the stroke of a pen to allow the private economy to take over. Expand oil drilling in the deep see and on federal lands, green light Keystone XL, fast track new nuclear...

    Facebook buying RIM?

HP bought a dying smartphone company (PALM) in an attempt to acquire its way into the market and ended up pulling the plug on it. FB will be on the same path if they bought RIMM. At least it made some sense for HP because it was already a consumer handheld player and PALM was practically worth...
