    IB and trading halts

No, that's not true, at least by my experience. I was holding Nasdaq position, GILD, halted during the day. IB released it as soon as NASDAQ resumes trading.

    Genesis Securities, Pros and Cons

Thanks for the help. I will check it out with Genesis later. By the way, IB allows this. So, I can put tens of orders at the same time. I begin to cancel them as other orders are filled. Obviously IB will auto liquidate positions if 4 to 1 margin is violated.

    Genesis Securities, Pros and Cons

JMowery1987 or someone else: Let me ask you about the definition of buying power. Do I have to place orders up to the buying power? Or can I place unlimited orders even though the execution is limited by the buying power? For example, if I have 10K buying power can I place 10K limit order...

IB TWS API - new invalid symbol error

I am using the previous version May ?, 2006, but it doesn't matter. Some other users already tried new versions, moved back to old versions, and retried new versions, etc ... Thanks.

IB TWS API - new invalid symbol error

I hope any IB representative here can help this issue. It seems that only new accounts with 6 digit id are affected, not the 'old' ones with 5 digit id. Before IB made some changes on their servers, I can backfill and see quotes for say, AAPL, using the 3rd party software like Amibroker...

IB TWS API - new invalid symbol error

Yes, I did. But, those guys do not know what is going on and are not willing to help. A one line reply: check with the software vendor.

IB TWS API - new invalid symbol error

I talked to some other people using IB and Amibroker. It seems that this is related with IB accounts. Some accounts are working properly, but some are not working. Would someone at IB check this issue? Thanks. ggoom

IB TWS API - new invalid symbol error

I am using Amibroker with IB data for charts and tech. analysis. Today, nothing works saying that, for example, AAPL is not a valid symbol. TWS is working fine, so I guess IB changed the format of symbol names. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks. ggoom

IB: new error message " could not value ...

I begin to see new error message in TWS saying that it could not determine the value of position when I initiate it. This is regular stock positions, so it should not happen. Never happened before this week. If I re-transmit it it goes without any problem. But, quite often I have to do this...

Can I close a somewhat erroneous execution now?

One of my order sitting in the INET was erroneously executed in my favor (about 80 cents) this morning about 90 minutes ago. Can I close it now? IB rep says "NO IDEA" Thanks for your help! ggoom

Unfair Timber Hill charge for IB-unbundled pricing

IBsoft may not read this thread again, but thanks. I would say Timber Hill charge is fair based on your explanation. Your #2 answer, that the charge is not in effect, is wrong. I have more than several proofs showing 0.002 charge. Whenever NYSE stocks are executed against TMBR I am paying...

IB Advisor Friends & Family account

I see. How about the pattern day trader rule? Is it applying to the IRA account? suppose that I have both regular account and IRA account in my F&F account, and the value of IRA account is less than $25,000. If I make a lot of day tradings, does the software automatically follow the pattern day...

Unfair Timber Hill charge for IB-unbundled pricing

I agree with Jack. Let's wait a day or two to see IB's response. You are absolutely right, jimrockford. I will not respond to anything that is not directly with the issue. Thanks for your advice.

Unfair Timber Hill charge for IB-unbundled pricing

I thought someone in IB like Def would provide his logic/explanation. As I said twice already, I am not criticizing IB's overall system. Even if IB is close to the best, we should address/discuss the issue if it is possible to improve/correct certain things, right? stock777, How much good...

Unfair Timber Hill charge for IB-unbundled pricing

What Jack said is right. In fact, I like Timber Hill (it is better to have another counterpart to trade and it is fast) EXCEPT its fee. Timber Hill is the most expensive except TRAC. Most times Timber Hill charges $0.002 which is at least twice more expensive than the other ECNs. The issue is...

Unfair Timber Hill charge for IB-unbundled pricing

I changed to unbundled pricing this month and overall it is saving me some. However, when I remove liquidity (for NYSE stocks) it is often executed against Timber Hill while either NYSE or ECNs are at NBBO. As you see below (this info is from IB website), Timber Hill charges fee more than normal...

New IB Commissions for High Volume Stock Traders

Steve or def, I am more confused now with the new price table mentioning 'as charged by the specialist'. Would you check whether the following two examples are correct or not? 1. 1000 share, $50 a share NYSE limit sell order placed through SMART routing, but stays in the book over 5...

New IB Commissions for High Volume Stock Traders

Steve or def, I want you to clarify what One said above. If I don't check the preserve button (I think I use an older version of TWS), I would not pay $0.01 fee for BOTH smart and NYSE direct orders even though my limit orders stay over 5 minutes because my orders will be regularly...

    IB Suggestions & Improvements

I just upgraded for the new alert feature and were happy to use it, but I think the alert method should be improved. Currently there are only 3 options such as last, double last, double bid/ask. I even do not know whether bid or ask is used if I choose double bid/ask. How about adding at least...
