Need a portfolio math geniuses help.

Hi all, Hoping someone can help me out with something that’s been vexing me for some time. Basically, I’m wondering how to figure out how much portfolio exposure one would generally need to generate a certain yearly return. I know there are tons of caveats here, but it’s pretty obvious...

Any ideas on managing multiple units in trading logs?

Thanks, I think I'd do LIFO. Do you know any software that does that sort of thing? I think that would be kind of hard for me to do in excel.

Any ideas on managing multiple units in trading logs?

I was wondering what the best way would be to record trades in a trading log if I want to do statistical performance analysis and often trade multiple units. I may initiate with 2 units, remove one, add it back, etc.. I'm not sure how to match them for p&L and performance metric purposes...

Is there a forum where CTAs talk business?

I was wondering if there was a forum or message board where CTAs and CPOs talk about issues related to their business specifically. Or at least one where a lot of talk is related to those businesses. Thanks.

My CTA hired for a single manager CPO: What percentage should I ask for?

We are free to raise outside money and the expected amount of money under management is definitely unknown. His goal is $25mm under management within a year but he is probably very conservative. I just spoke to a lawyer familiar with this space and he said that CTA's hired by CPOs typically...

My CTA hired for a single manager CPO: What percentage should I ask for?

A guy came to me and plans on starting a CPO pool with me as the single manager. He incurs the costs of setting up the fund, raising money, and admin. All I do is trade and research, but I have a 17 year track record of live profitable trading. What percent would you think is fair or at least...

    Log-Range volatility for dummies?

Thank you sir! That's exactly what I needed. Don't know why those Phd's have to speak in Math Cant--your excel equation is just a tad more efficient.

Method for reducing exposure to correlated markets?

That has been my thinking Murray. You definitely want to look at correlation of returns rather than the markets, but one should only real care if they're correlated and moving against you. I could see markets being correlated with a trend but less correlated against it. I could also imagine...

Volume--- how to use it and WHY

Volume most certainly doesn't equal liquidity. If you want to measure relative liquidity you would have to divide the day's range by volume so you can see how much price moved with that volume.

Method for reducing exposure to correlated markets?

I've seen books about measuring correlation but I haven't seen anything about how to actually use the correlation coefficient to find a position size for the correlated markets. Anyone know of a book or resource for this info?

    Graham Capitals traded markets list?

I seem to recall a list of the markets Graham Capital trades in it's trend-following systems. I know there is one for transtrend but I believe there was also one for Graham. Anyone have that? thanks.

Anyone know of any other good forums, ie. well populated, that deal with system trading/design/etc.? Thanks.

    Log-Range volatility for dummies?

Exactly. Now if I could just figure out how to do that in excel. :)

    Log-Range volatility for dummies?

I actually read both of those before I posted. I'm not asking for a simplified version of the equation. I'm asking for the equation to be posted in terms more amenable to non-Phd's in math. Like in an excel equivalent or something.

    Log-Range volatility for dummies?

My understanding is that the log-ratio method is more sophisticated. I'm wondering if you simplified it here. Thanks for your answer in any case.

    Log-Range volatility for dummies?

I read a paper on using Log-Range as a volatility estimator but couldn't get through the mathspeak. Can someone post the formula in more traderly terms? Thanks!
