1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

I saw this comment/response on the Haiti article: "I understand your way of thinking on this, but the revenue from this tax will not be as you think because you are assuming that trading will continue as normal. This is probably a very inelastic scenario. You tax and trading grinds to...

vultures, maybe, let nature work the way it ought to work...nobody likes the vultures, screw them....vultures serve a purpose, worms serve a purpose, parasites serve a purpose, and even if they DIDN'T THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO EXIST, try to tinker with nature and it's plain to see what happens

that's great gkishot! hard working worms, exactly! the worms aren't in it so that the grass grows green, they are in it for themselves but the grass takes advantage of the worms and grows greener and healthier for it, the grass sees the worms as annoying and useless because they keep...

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

Agreed gk... The more attempts to orchestrate such a complex thing as a national economy (especially US or other developed nation) the wronger it goes. Look at the tax code, a bumbled mess that only lawyers and accountants can figure out (more uselessness, right?). Just scrap the whole...

how about a "wealth tax"? an asset tax....just one time to help pay the deficit? if you have the money 'cause you made the money in the past, then pay some out to help the US deficit....makes sense to me (for real)

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

You all probably know the correlation by now....equities up, USD down and vice versa. Would be nice to see a break of that at the time of Obama's speech to equities down AND USD down, and hard too. Make those who like this shit talk pay when they see their retirements going away and there...

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

Getting into a real (I mean real) debate about who or what is useful or useless to society is dangerous. The scale definitely tilts toward socialism the more this type of thinking gains traction. Just a rambling of socially useless or un-necessary endeavors: -any type of work or...

    This is the top...for now

Seems to me that EVERYONE is thinking this thing is going to continue straight up (talking about S&P500 & Dollar weakness). For a while there everyone was looking for a pullback or some kind of correction. Now everyone is thinking it's going to continue. I just don't see it. Elliott wave...

Turns out that the market IS out to get you

Since you all mentioned the similarities between golf and trading I have to say for those that play, that Poker is alot like trading. Of course there is the element of the unkown...what variables are headed your way...but it's how you control the situation you are in that matters. It's how you...

Turns out that the market IS out to get you

FB123....that is a fabulous post...very insightful and well articulated. Intuitively I know this but don't do it as often as I should. Amazingly when bad trades happen it sometimes ruins my week and only after a weekend off do I regain perspective and get going again in the right direction. I...

    IB TWS reacting slowly

Sure. TWS 899 is currently browser based only right now and I prefer using the standalone version. As soon as it becomes available (soon I would think) I will test it a bit and post what I find.

Thanks DAV. Maybe I'll upgrade. It is clearly an issue with how many windows are NOT minimized. Even if they are not visible (i.e.-behind each other), if they are not minimized, they increase the load. My solution is to flip through my charts as I need them. So everything is minimized...

I'm using two 20" widescreen monitors. I know it sounds like many charts but I'll explain a bit more. I have settings with 3 Futures contracts and a multi-chart on each, each chart has 4 subcharts (a Daily, 60m, 30m, 15m). In the same settings I have 4 FX charts each of which has 4 subcharts...

Another update... With 13 total TWS windows (7 multi-chart windows (with 4 each for a total of 28 charts) and 6 other windows), memory load (with all windows Restored is about 300K and CPU usage bounces high and low but is not interfering with PC usage and not causing noticable delays in TWS...

    IB TWS reacting slowly

Well, experimented some more. It seems that with single chart windows, even restored, CPU usage is reasonable while memory load is higher (34 total TWS windows, 28 of them charts, all Restored, puts memory load by javaw.exe at about 960K). But the combination works since CPU load is generally...

    IB TWS reacting slowly

I've tried using the multichart function (multiple charts in one chart window) and single chart windows. Basically it comes down to the number of windows not minimized. If the windows are all minimized, the CPU usage drops to almost nothing. As you "Restore" windows, processor usage creeps...
