    Memory speed vs. memory timing??

My current trading computer is actually a Dell server with ECC running Windows XP. It is run 24x7 and is extremely reliable. As you allude to, ECC is only part of the reliability equation. The weak realibility-links in most computers are probably a sub-standard power-supply or sub-standard...

    Memory speed vs. memory timing??

The penalty for ECC over non-ECC memory is < 3%, being closer to 0% in actual operation. In the case that it's actually corrected/detected an error do you care about a slight increase in latency? To build an extremely reliable trading platform you need to have high-reliability/quality in each...

    Memory speed vs. memory timing??

Unfortunately we are in a transition period where technology is moving to 1333Mhz FSB processors with DDR3 memory and ECC lags a bit behind. The old reliable motherboard supporting ECC was the Intel D975XBX2 which can be paired with Kingston 1 gig PC-6400 DDR2 ECC, but that motherboard doesn't...

    Memory speed vs. memory timing??

A memory error resulting in a changed bit could have one of several effects. It could result in no effect (in memory that wasn't being used), a changed pixel on the screen, a changed value in a running program's data, a program crash or erroneous operation, an operating system crash or...

    Memory speed vs. memory timing??

The primary reason for buffered (aka "registered") memory is to be able to support larger amounts of onboard memory. The memory bus can only drive so many chips directly and buffering takes some of the load off the bus. It's usually only used if the motherboard supports more than 4gig.

    Memory speed vs. memory timing??

It makes a reliability difference. If you want to build the most reliable trading computer, go with a good motherboard that supports ECC memory and ECC memory modules.

In trading it is better to go with ECC memory.

    Forex Daytrading a Losing game?

"all" my criticism is invalid? So you actually believe that if everyone knew the opening price of some commodity/currency/security tomorrow everyone would be able to be a millionaire as a result of that knowledge? "very randomly"? So there are degrees of randomness and since "very" is less...

    Forex Daytrading a Losing game?

There are several fallacies in the article you referenced. The author claims: "All Movements in Short Time Frames Are Random". If all movements in short time frames were random, all movement in longer time frames would be random as well. And: "If we all knew tomorrows price today we would...

    Question about bid/ask fills

Some simulators are better than others. A simulator that always fills you at the midpoint of the bid/ask spread is not one of the better ones.
