    Interactive Brokers Excel DDE API

After installing a new version of excel I'm having a problem with the links updating automatically. There's always a pause and then all of the cells on the page update rather than dynamically like it used to. The same thing happens when I use the TOS RTD calls so I know its not The TWS API. I'm...

Which month did you sell? April?

    Probability and Std Deviations

I didn't say it that way and when someone asks a question you should kind of tone your answer down so the person can understand rather then confuse them more. No need to be rude and all uppity.

Choosing a brokerage, avoiding bucketshops - what would you do?

If you're trading butterflies or any kind of spread all brokers are going to internalize your order first. And someone posting something like "WARNING WARNING!!" shouldn't be taken seriously anyway. IB margins both sides of an iron butterfly/condor so it takes up more margin but it's a front-end...

OK I'll let you confuse the guy a little more since you think you have a better solution.

    Probability and Std Deviations

It was Tom Preston who developed most of the formulas. All options software is going to have bugs (especially in fast markets). I LOVE that book and that's exactly the point I was trying to make about everything being too theoretical.

    Probability and Std Deviations

You may be making it way too complicated for what you're try to accomplish. Thinkorswims's platform is free and I trust their calculations since they were developed by some really smart guys. If you're building out your own Excel sheet for an API the best route is to simply decide what...

Good idea to sell spreads and take off the protection?

The whole point of selling premium is defined risk. predicting direction when you're trading options is just speculating with no edge. That's not a very good spread anyways since its so tight and commissions would kill it.

    Option Spread (Filing Returns)

If you're starting to do a lot of option trades the best thing to do is get an accountant. I've used one for the past four years and it makes it SO easy. Look in the tax section to get an idea of the good and bad ones.

SPY/IWM Traders - have you ever been assigned on a short option before expiration?

The biggest problem with assignment is having to deal with the slippage and commissions after assignment. If your short is in the money at all it's a problem from the start since you'll start to lose Theta the more it goes ITM. What type of spread are you trading ?

    How liquid are VIX options?

If you're doing a SPY/IWM butterfly you're much better off embedding something directly within the spread to correct your Greeks. Either front month or back depending on how far out you put them on. As far as analytics are concerned I think everyone would agree that using two different...

    Some basic futures options questions...

I trade strictly ES options through IB and unless you're doing massive size I would stick with them. As far as margin IB uses SPAN but if there's some real velocity happening to the downside they'll jack it up instantaneously to protect themselves since you have so much more leverage with...

    Excel Question

I'm pretty sure this is a rudimentary Excel question but here goes. I have this worksheet calculate code in Excel that takes an instance in Cell A1 and populates the data into cell B2, B3, B4 etc etc every 1 minute (I'm using IB's DDE API to grab whatever data I'm looking to capture out of cell...

    Staying humble

Sounds more like an insurance salesman doing some BS strategy on the side and thinking he's a badass "trader". I don't know about you SLE but I love dudes like this. We can sell him INHUMAN volatility when his moving average/RSI/Bollinger Band/Fibonacci Olive Garden invitro boom boom indicator...

I have a system, now what

This may be a silly question but have you ever place a live trade with your system? Why not take some vacation time and trade it live for a week or two just to get a feel for it? I'm not sure if your strategy is based on options or equities but handling real time slippage and getting your face...

It's AWESOME they finally did it. I've been pissing and moaning about it for the past 5 years!

Does anyone have a solution for avoiding or decreasing modification fees with IB?

Well if you know about Jesse Livermores life, which Reminiscences of a Stock Operator is basesd on, you should also know that he blew up multiple times and finally committed suicided in the end. Funny side note (not really funny but macabre I guess) his final wife had been married five times...

Does anyone have a solution for avoiding or decreasing modification fees with IB?

No offense guys but this wasnt meant to be an amateur thread.I trade with portfolio margin so i dont have any of those issues. I'm fully aware of how IB treats margin and luquidations. If you've traded with them long enough you should also know how they treat these issues when volatility goes...

Does anyone have a solution for avoiding or decreasing modification fees with IB?

They won't cancel your order and thats a retarded way to trade options by placing more orders rather than changing your price
