Which Broker Is The Best For Options Traders?

IB. The rest is for pussies

    Apple Earnings play

Let me try: it’s respectful bull. This is the trap of programs that apply ONE vol setting to ALL legs in a combo, instead of modelling them separately. It’s secretly rooted in Black-Scholes paradise. Think about it: vega measures your price change when volatility changes. Well, when...

Thanks anyway for the link but heck, what a crappy piece of ware. This one’s free for a reason.

When is the best time to buy a call option

No it’s a ridiculous request! Anyone seriously responding here is taken for a ride by Mr. “ET Sponsor”!

    Anyone Chart Options?

Agree. Nice free source. Click an option symbol to get e.g. this chart and hover mouse over the lookback periods under the chart.

Implied on bid and ask separately. The Imp. Vol column is based on bid/ask *average*. All are derived from Option Model settings.

Load all options data of a stock into Excel

Unbeatable? They charge $745 for five years historical, stricknet charges $147 for that. If you don’t mind missing some data then at tbsp download it all @ $65 ($25 registration + 1 month @ $40). $65 or $147 instead of $745. What-are-they-thinking? Edit: strick lacks index options...

Historical price data for individual options on futures & stocks

With http://tbsp.com/public/default.htm you get whole enchilada, with a big backlash: all stock options that have not traded for 30 consecutive days are removed from the database, independent of outstanding open interest. Unbelievable, but true.

What if open interest is skewed one way?

Not quite related to the option market, but interesting technical look. Meanwhile I have tried to reconcile the exp.friday bashing (volume 15X the avg.) with the upcoming > 40% price increase, but all I can think of is that these sellers must be banging their heads against the wall...

    Italian Option Chains

Good point, ha! As it turns out that’s not possible: you can trade exactly two index futures and one future option in Italy! Yes I thought I had spotted a good opportunity, subscribed to the feed and asked permit and got the chains in perfectly. An inquiry at IB explained that any security...

    Italian Option Chains

Does anyone happen to know a place for Option chains on Italian stocks as traded on IDEM Milan that include Open Interest? IB does not provide open interest on these nor does the exchange, except on a per-contract lookup ( example, click C or P in Call or Put column). It's difficult to...

What if open interest is skewed one way?

FA, that’s wonderful, thanks very much! Here is an intraday 30-min ATN chart with marked the big Feb 25 put buys. Almost undeniable short term reaction (MM’s hedging by shorting stock?), but still puzzled by the daily developments: Especially by the big bashing on expiration...

What if open interest is skewed one way?

So these were the large ATN transactions: 4 Jan: 14K Jan 30 calls 11 Jan: 14K Feb 30 calls 19 Jan: Jan 30 calls expire worthless (ATN @ 27.24) 22 Jan: 2.5K Feb 25 puts 1 Feb: 4K Feb 25 puts 5 Feb: 6.5K Feb 25 puts 6 Feb: 5K Feb 25 puts resulting in ~15K OI in...

What if open interest is skewed one way?

Thanks for the paper. The data is available at http://www.marketdataexpress.com/serviceFeatures.aspx# (the Open/Close data) but only includes transactions on CBOE. I just spent $4.50 on the ATN and the big transactions aren’t there! Processing Bulk data to extract this kind of...

What if open interest is skewed one way?

Well, another explanation is manipulation. In case of ATN ~15K puts represent 1.5M shares. Any one party short these (all big IF’s, I know) will have no scruples buying an avg. 150K volume stock back to the strike. Perhaps..... This is from an elaborate piece fom 2004. I’m not on top of...

What if open interest is skewed one way?

That’s an idea, but you have worked with option databases so know what a nightmare that is. It’s not on top of my list. BTW the existence of pinning is certain as climate change. Many scientific stuff much more reliable than my little backtest...

What if open interest is skewed one way?

But it becomes interesting when stock volume is way below 1M. Prequisite indeed is that the money at stake is high compared to the stock turnover, so the tail is wagging the dog. Besides it’s a numbers game right? If nine out of ten times it is false alarm then we’re playing the coin...
