Were the European downgrades during or after market hours?

Cant figure this out, news articles just state when the articles themselves were posted, not the actual time of the announcements. Does anyone have any idea when it actually happened?

    list of stocks w/ buyout

Google: "Mergers and Acquisitions", "M&A". Or check sites that carry Economic Calendars, Earnings Announcements, or Analyst Upgrades/Downgrades. Many of those also cover M&A.

    Stop-Loss in Options Trading

Market, but I only trade in the most actively traded penny increment spread atm options. The atm spreads are almost always one cent, or two at the most. You've really got to get several points out before you see a spread of even three to five cents. I also buy slightly in the money, picking my...

    Stop-Loss in Options Trading

When I am trading calls or puts in place of getting long or short of the underlying I use the same stops I would use for the underlying. I set conditional orders to exit the option based on the price of the underlying. As per money management and position sizing, I round down my options...

    Charts, level 2 or both

And if we see the sub-pennies, what then? I've read articles that saying the sub-pennies have something to do with hft front running the nbbo under the guise of providing price improvement, but with the climate of mistrust and blame regarding hft, I do not know what to make of it. I don't...

    Charts, level 2 or both

As with the prior interruption of your thread, your question only brings one word to mind: depends. I do not incorporate level two into my strategies at all anymore, but others might still use it. Many things have changed like ecns with hidden orders, soes, decimalization, those really impacted...

    Best indextracker for Gold ?

I use GLD (ETF) or GC (Futures), but I only use gold prices as part of my intermarket analysis, I don't trade gold. There may be better.

I have a problem (RE: Competition / Price Action / Swing Trades / Reversals )

Have you ever considered trading the near the money option instead of the underlying in that situation? The typically 0.5'ish delta would generally reduce your risk by about half.

I have a problem (RE: Competition / Price Action / Swing Trades / Reversals )

By that statement alone, it sounds like your problem, possibly and likely among others, is that you're trading too many shares at a time and you cannot stomach the risk. Reduce your size until you can accept that risk in stride without flinching. How often would you say that you are actually...

    Pattern Day Rule with Examples

The number of shares or contracts does not matter, you could buy ten, sell ten, on the same day, and that is one round trip. If you buy ten, sell nine, and then sell the last one, on the same day, that is two round trips.

Thoughts on momentum strategies for illiquid assets?

Are you specifically attempting to exploit the fact that an instrument is illiquid? If so, I can't help you there, as I do not trade in illiquid instruments, I specifically avoid them. Also, by transaction costs, are you only implying commissions, or have you also accounted for wide bid ask...

    It's All GREEK To Me....

I trade options as a replacement for the underlying when I intend on holding a position overnight. I usually only buy calls or puts by themselves. The price of the underlying relative to the strike, and the amount of time to expiration is all I really look at. I typically do not even look at the...

    UNBELIEVABLE p/l

I once found myself in a similar situation. As it turns out, on just one particular line of code, I had forgotten that arrays start at zero instead of at one. My system was basically granted the ability to see a day into the future when dealing with historic data, so of course it worked...

When is it "correct" to trade at the midpoint?

There are many factors at play here. As per apage, the intended duration of the trade and number of shares being traded must be considered. The momentum and volatility of the market, and the relationships between your entries and exits price range wise may also play a role in this. There may be...

When is it "correct" to trade at the midpoint?

If by midpoint you mean the midpoint between the bid and the ask, and the reason you're asking this is in reference to wide bid-ask spreads, it is never "correct" in my opinion. Personally, I would just trade something else.

TICK and TRIN 1 minute data

Those symbols are so widely available that its actually difficult to recommend a single provider. In any case, as long as you're not subscribed to an end of day only service, they should be available. Many end of day services will also provide the intraday data on a delay.
