    Canadian Banks

Given the mess in the financial sector, would anyone say that NOW is a good time to take a buy and hold position in a canadian bank. In specific I'm looking at CIBC (CM), whose stock has been nearly halved. Seems to have stabilized and is left with a lot of room to grow and recoup losses...

    Help with the W-8BEN form

That was my first thought, but then I thought...HEY!...why not bother the good folks at Elite Trader first....haha. I'll probably give them a call tonight or tommorow though. I'm just one of those people who likes to get all info, from all angles before I do anything.

    Help with the W-8BEN form

I'm a Canadian citizen, living in Canada. I'm trading the Nasdaq. I've been requested to fill out this W-8BEN form by May 15th. Can you tell me why I'm filling this out?...and also, how I'm supposed to fill this out? Thanks a bunch

    Commodities trading

Yes, there is an option to setup a paper trading account in the account manager, but I just wasn't sure if it would work the same with the Futures...the Mini Crude to be specific. I guess I'll have to give interactive brokers a shout.

    Commodities trading

Thanks for all the info. I'll be reading up for a while by the looks of it. I have no plans on rushing into it. One thing that would be great though is to paper trade with a sim program of some sort. Does IB have futures paper trading? Any recommendations for paper trading? I'd like to...

    Commodities trading

Ok, so in short, just to keep things simple. I can still do the usual long and short buying of shares, except that now they will expire at some point. If I didn't sell my shares and they went all the way to the expiry date...would I then be automatically closed out of my position at that...

    Commodities trading

HAHAHA...no no...I was just saying that I don't get the point of having time limits. I certainly wouldn't be holding anything for years, maybe a week at the most. The way the oil moves I was thinking more like a couple days at a time. Anyway, I need to sleep. Hopefully I'll wake up in the...

    Commodities trading

Right....I actually did know that. But what's the point of having an expiration date on a price? Why can't the price just continue on indefinitely? Also, why purchase a contract that's dated 4 months in advance and doesn't have any relevance to what the current price action is? Or even the...

    Commodities trading

Like I mentioned in the first post, I've never touched options either. So I don't know exactly how they differ from what I'm doing now. OIH looks pretty good, and it seems to follow the oil futures chart closely. I guess it's just weird though to look at it priced at $140 a share, when I'm...

    Commodities trading

Thanks Futures look very interesting. Thats what I'd really like to get into, but I don't have the slightest clue about them. If April Crude is sitting at a price of $60 and I think it's going to go up, can I just buy in at that price with a long position and then sell when it hits $64...

    Commodities trading

I've never done any options trading or futures, or anything outside of the simple world of going short or going long with a block of shares. I'm really interested in commodities though. What I'd like to do is continue the same short/long game, but trade the oil prices instead. Point me in...

Will price double for Tim Hortons IPI this week (like Chipotle)?

I would have liked to get some stock at issue myself, but I wasn't exactly sure how. Does IB fulfill requests for shares at issue?

    Buying an IPO

I keep seeing all these comparisons of Tim Hortons and Chipotle. When CMG debuted it jumped on the first day...is that correct? Do you think these comparisons are just? What's everyones take on how this stock will react over the next few days? I just wish I had more knowledge about the...

    Buying an IPO

I'm quite interested in this Tim Hortons IPO. I've never purchased a stock right out of the gate before. How can I grab hold of some shares quickly, and just incase it shoots up like some people are expecting...cheaply? Will it be tradeable when the market opens that morning? or is there...

    nano stocks

Man I wish I was part of the joyous celebration :( I got in before market open at $5.70 watched it run to 6.50 with a huge smile on my face. Needless to say that smile was erased quickly. I went against every sensible bone in my body on that long and I got screwed. I feel like such a...
