I would think the main worry about early exercise is when the stock goes ex-dividend. Why not just do the same spread with puts if you don't want to worry about early exercise?

DO NOT download the new TWS 878 released 10/24/07. It freezes up and crashes, I called IB and while they are aware of the issue, they have not issued any advisory, nor have they pulled the new release from their system.

This problem was manually corrected by IB, and the system appears to be working fine now.

Yes restarting works temporarily, but it then eventually reverts back. If you are trading through an API (which you are apparently not) it is even more annoying. I have no idea how this glitch has lasted over two months without a fix from IB. By the way, what specific options are you trading?

Yes, I am experiencing the same problem. The last version that worked correctly for me was 870.2 (Mar 27, 2007). Are you trading through an API, or just through the TWS?

CBOE has better liquidity. I only submit orders during the day, from my experience they always used to park them on CBOE, but now it is ISE. They only send to PHLX or BOX, when they show an offer at your bid price.

Interactive Brokers SMART routing system used to route unfilled orders by default to CBOE for equity options. Now, they are sent to ISE, where it is much more difficult to get filled, anyone else notice this?
