    Short sale myth?

That looks allot like pyramiding a position. As profits accumulate, the proceeds are scaled into the position; certainly valid, not withstanding the risk considerations.

The S&P has topped at 1150

Hi James, What's the timeframe for your call? I.e., are we done with a bear market rally that lasted 15 months, or is this an IT top?

    Yen

I read an analisys that if not for the BoJ intervention, the USD/JPY would be at around the 95 level. I don't know how true that is, but it's an interesting point of view. The BoJ has been defending the 106 level, and most recently the 105.5 level, by selling trillions of yen. So, it makes...

would you give it all up to be super rich ??

Don't know the stats on that... are you referring to not having money or not having happiness? I've known very wealthy people who are also single and lonely, and I would never trade for that... Period. It think those that are quick to say no to this question of trading money are already...

would you give it all up to be super rich ??

Oh absolutely!!! No strings attached? You bet! You're right in it being a happiness enabling technology .. being able to spend more time with friends and family... Oh yea! However, that was not the question; you have to give up your family and your friends. My wife and kids are priceless...

would you give it all up to be super rich ??

I think samson77 has it right. Many studies of those who became suddenly rich (i.e., million dollar lottery winners, etc.) are actually less happy after having all that money--the illusion of what happiness it would bring is dispelled. I vote no. Money doesn't make one happy; it does...

    Program added without my knowledge?

Be very, very careful with banner type ads and anything that offers to check something on your computer, give a browser enhancement, offer to provide a service like keeping your clock up to date, etc., etc., etc. This is a common way for these nastly little popup programs to get installed. Some...

The S&P is looking very toppy

Mr. Waggie945... I can't agree with your assessment about James's credibility. I've found this thread quite entertaining and colorful. James may not be likable--he gloats about calls, may be considered arrogant, etc. However, he made a challenge, laid out terms in that challenge, and had...

Trading as a business - pros and cons

It will take a bit longer than 3-6 months to become "consistently" successful as a trader... more like 3 to 5 years. There is much to learn and experience is necessary and invaluable. Still, this time frame is in line with--or even shorter than other very rewarding professions.

Repetition, The Mother of Success and Failure. RAMOUTAR REPORT VOLUME 10

It's a shame a post so well intended and right on target should need such a disclaimer. Couldn't agree more with the contents of your post. Well stated.

Ameritrade - Pulling my hair out

Very true, however, if e-mail is his only method of contacting customer service, then FreeTrade is likely much better than the parent division. I've e-mailed them a number of times and typically have an answer within 30 minutes... much better than the 2 or 3 days from his experience... again...

Ameritrade - Pulling my hair out

fwiw: Scottrade vs. freetrade (have accounts at both) I never really had a problem with fills at Scottrade. However, they had some growing pains earlier this year with their streamer and web interface. These problems seem to be under control now. Mutual fund trading is free for rydex...

Question on Importing EOD data into Excel...

Is there a way to import EOD data automatically into Excel spreadsheet cells? (I'm working on a spreadsheet calculator, and currently input the data manually.) I.e., say if you want only the high and low of a symbol for the last 10 days, how would that be written into a spreadsheet so the...

Do you want to hear the music of markets?

Ditto on the thread compliment. Notes to candlesticks... What an idea! You know how you can get a melody or song stuck in your mind--can't get rid of it? Imagine getting the music of a bad trade stuck in your mind... Hearing that over and over again. I suppose that could go the other...

    For you, Technical Analisys lovers!

OK... I do have a question: For those traders who are below the requirement for 4-to-1 margin and daytrading regulations, or for those who would like to hold positions for more than one day, do you have a method?
