    Thanks tips. But one used to be able to trade with 500 bucks, there must be a broker out there that still accepts so little. It's more for the experience than to make cash, by the way.

    http://www.stockstalker.com has a system that finds stocks that have moved sharply. they were just beta testing but it's over now. luckily I got to play around in the program but now it's 20 bucks for a two day trial. on the website there's tons of info. jik

    by Peter Lynch is a great read. Really a good overview. Great perspective on longer term trading. Teaches you to keep your eyes open for real opportunities in every day life.
