Journal - My Switch From IB to Velocity Futures

Also requested by PM the X_Trader T&S. This saves to a file and you can set the maximum number of days to store. I have noticed that X_Trader doesn't seem to miss ticks that IB TWS data feed would occasionally. In fact, when I used Medved Quotetracker, it was only as a backup, because I...

Journal - My Switch From IB to Velocity Futures

I also wanted to note, to cancel an order, you can just click on the order next to the price bar. Click the "Dell All" button to cancel all orders. Click the button below that to delete just sell orders and the one below that to delete just the buy orders. Go to the "Order Book" window (not...

Finally, a screen shot with orders entered. Five lot sell at 113900 and five lot buy at 113475. To enter a buy, just click on the blue cell corresponding to your bid. To enter a sell, click on the red cell corresponding to your offer. Use the "keypad" style entry to modify your quantity...

Journal - My Switch From IB to Velocity Futures

MDT shown previously with blue bars to indicate volume at each tick. (This is cummulative since I started it at approximately 9AM EST.) Now, numerical values have been enabled so that the exact volume is given at each tick.

The eating continues as 113650 was the offer but is now the bid. MDT shows the price has still not risen past 113650.

Cancelled Order (Pink) remained for many days (IB/TWS)

This happened to me. The order sat on my TWS for days. Finally, after not being able to get through to IB by phone, I sent an email. Tech support replied by email that the order would be cancelled that night when the servers reset. Sure enough, it disappeared from my TWS screen. Two days...

Journal - My Switch From IB to Velocity Futures

Well, I stopped by my computer to see where the market was - I used to trade at night a lot more. I looked at the time and realized IB was down! VF is open 24x5-1/2 and X_Trader is available with trade desk telephone support! I can't tell you how many times I was locked out of the market...

Journal - My Switch From IB to Velocity Futures

Now for the comparison of the two platforms. I came to like the IB TWS, especially the more that I used it. First the features that I miss. Note: Because I trade only futures, there are a number of features in TWS that I did not use and will not address them here. TWS OCA: With this...

    daytrade4less.com-comment?

Yes, I am recommending VF. I have recently opened an account with them and so far, the experience has been very positive. For details, see my journal of this switch at http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=26777&perpage=6&pagenumber=1

When I got a commissions rate quote from them, they were higher than IB, unless you want to pay the J-Trader or X-Trader platform fee. In that case you might as well go to Velocity for even lower commissions, which is what I did.

Journal - My Switch From IB to Velocity Futures

Okay, back to an actual comparison of IB and Velocity Futures. Yes it is about volume. My previous post on the break even point to pay for the X_Trader platform fee (after the free month offered to ET members) was erroneous since it was based on a $4.50 RT commission by IB. Since then I have...

Journal - My Switch From IB to Velocity Futures

Well, I can't control what others post. However, my intent is not to bash IB, but to give traders who are considering switching an honest comparison. I was an IB customer for over a year and a half. While I am now trading with Velocity, I have absolutely no other interest in the firm. So...

Journal - My Switch From IB to Velocity Futures

Just to be clear on this, I was not referring to IB when I was talking about "slimy" brokers. When I was a new trader, there was no electronic order entry. I paid $75, then $50 RT. I have nothing bad to say about those brokers. I did not experience churning. I have nothing good to say...

Journal - My Switch From IB to Velocity Futures

For those interested, I am starting this journal to chronicle my experience with IB and Velocity, especially during the first part of making the change. It is my intent to be as fair as possible (from my perspective, of course) in both the pros and cons of the two brokers. Feel free to ask...

My switch from IB to Velocity Futures

Okay, I will start this journal here tomorrow. I will compare both the firms and the trading platforms. I will avoid talking about my trades unless they have to do with the difference in margin requirements for daytrading. Per the ET moderator, the thread will remain in this forum.

My switch from IB to Velocity Futures

If there is any interest, I will start a journal regarding my switch from IB to Velocity. A response by two people will be sufficient. If there is no interest, I won't bother. ET Moderator: please state whether I should start it in this forum or the journal forum.

    going against the grain?

I like the pop writings, agree this is a valid summary. His "rule 3" was obviously one he struggled with and what he finally came up with didn't help me as a daytrader. Since POP's trading methods have a profit area, he didn't make it a rule. For me, a trailing stop becomes an essential...

    going against the grain?

Basically there are three trading emotions, all working against you (fear, greed, hope). Hope works against you when you are in a loosing trade. You don't survive long until you at least put in rigid stop loss rule in your trading plan and adhere to them. Fear causes you to exit early...
