IB operations are in Greenwich, CT, USA (not Greenwich UK). So don't put your server in London! As previous poster has mentioned, don't expect very low latency from IB gateway. Probably ~ 100ms is what you should expect. For that reason anywhere east-coast ish USA will be pretty much equivalent.

Let me guess: the demo account in question uses delayed data and you had a peek at some real-time data.
