(This is a re-post of a question asked to Trading Software forum http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=230068; I'm hoping users here can provide some more advice, especially regarding Bloomberg)
Hi everyone,
Could anyone point me to companies which provide both historic...
Regarding R: any good links for add-on packages which scrape the data from websites? I tried http://r-forge.r-project.org/ and http://cran.r-project.org/ but add-ons which scrape the data there seem to be quite limited.
I would also appreciate any other pointers regarding whether other...
That is true, but one must also take into account that commercials (usually the most liquid players) are generally net short all markets.
That is why liquidity problems and margin increases generally cause prices to drop as more longs than shorts are forced to liquidate positions.
Hi everyone,
Could anyone point me to companies which provide both historic and current data for a wide arrange of macro data (i.e. ags acreage and yield estimates, interest rates, ags imports/exports, energy storage levels, stock/index/commodities prices, etc.)?
I believe Bloomberg has some...
(I apologize for noob question - I tried looking through last few months of threads on this forum, but didn't see an answer)
I'd like to give automatic trading a try, but I don't have a good internet connection I can use (I'm always on road, and living in hotels, so fixing this is not an...
I agree with others that its best to avoid friends and family in your situation, but you seem pretty set on it :)
Regarding fees, if you charge them something fair, they are sure to talk about your back and be jealous (even if you provide them with stellar returns after fees).
Best bet might...
But account statements indicate that I'm holding actual cash. Could someone from IB jump in - am I taking delivery on forex trades or are they rolled over every day?
So I was just doing taxes for this year, and tried to figure out forex gains from IB - what a nightmare. I keep my trades on for more than 2 days, so from what I understand I fall under section 988 because I take actual delivery; I also had a bunch of trades open on 12/31 which only makes things...
From what I understand, US residents are not allowed to trade in futures which are not specifically authorized by SEC (or some other agency, doesn't matter) which unfortunately also means that we can't trade on LMEX metal futures.
Does anyone know if these rules are actually enforced, either...
Hi, I often do pair trades or multiple trades based on some trading idea, so I would like to somehow group and label these trades in TWS. Is something like this possible or I need to use some 3rd party software (and if so, which)?
Thanks,
Tom
Hi,
Can anyone recommend portfolio management software which supports stocks, forex, futures, international markets, and either has its own data feed or can be hooked into TWS.
The only one I found is Fund Manager, but I'm not too thrilled about it.
My account is less than $1M so its too small to use inter-dealer brokers or private banking.
I took a look at Kim Eng and Core Pacific Yamaichi, but it seems both of them are missing some markets that I need (i.e. Thailand, LSE), although Kim Eng does have Thailand subsidiary (I guess they...
Any advice on Singapore or Hong Kong based brokers with decent online platforms (even web-based is fine)?
I have been using Phillip Capital based in Singapore but their platform seems to be 10 years behind US brokers, security seems very weak, etc. but I was unable to find anything better so...
