IB Option Commissions Are Bucket Shop Ridiculous

Here's the weird thing FSU: twice today (at least on a spread basis) I was charged $3.14 ($1.57 per side) and once (in SPY) I was on a limit order that was a dime away when entered and not filled for an hour after submission. In other words, by no standard was I a taker. Yet, a few similar...

How did we have so much inflation in the 70s?

Dollar weakness. Milton Friedman said, "inflation is a monetary phenomenon." From 1965 to 1980, USD was decimated vs the Deutschmark and Yen.

IB Option Commissions Are Bucket Shop Ridiculous

I was short some far OTM QQQ call spreads that were .01b-.03a. I paid $3.14 in commission (per spread) to cover $2 in short premium.

I keep a few thou in a Robinhood account, jic IB goes down or in case I want to buy commission free OTM options. I'm not really exposed in IB (I'm long a few mid-Jan ES put spreads) but I wanted to add, so I tried logging in to RH. They're down, too!

Fortunately, I use Robinhood as my backup broker. (seriously) At least RH only goes down during record volume sessions. :sneaky:

California Population Growth Lowest In History

In the past half century, the poorest nations have gained the most population. (i.e. Africa, the Middle East and South America)

    Tail wagging the dog?

Just to chime in: If XYZ is an index component and index futures are offered below Fair Value, then a "sell program" is triggered that will buy the cheap futures and sell the now out of whack rich stocks. If, after absorbing said program selling, XYZ holds its own vs the index and most...

    Tail wagging the dog?

When you hear stats saying, "70% of Stock Exchange volume is program trading", that means that price discovery is indeed being led by futures. A similar situation exists in Treasuries (really, all interest rate futures) but far less so-although far more so than decades ago-in currencies.

Can someone with real futures trading experince tell me if this strategy can works?

No, it won't work. The "demo" is giving you unachievable in real life fills.

All market gains since 1993 have occurred after hours

Good grief. 1. Other than FOMC operations, most "market moving" news occurs outside of RTH. 2. Since 1993, $SPX has rallied about the same amount as the buy the close, sell the open strategy. The only advantage is being flat for five hours each day. 3. There's a cost to getting flat. Someone...

How are bond futures prices adjusted?

If someone asked you the same question but were instead, referencing index futures, would you have answered similarly? Yes, bond futures, just like index futures and many other products, have a basis between contract and cash that reflects interest rate differentials, coupon payments and when...

    Options commission question....Tasty Works......

Then, why do the Rule 606 disclosures from the heavy discount brokerages show a majority of orders routed to Citadel, Virtu etal?

Nigel Farage manipulated the markets during Brexit using insider info.

(((Bloomberg))) is a whiny billionaire propagandist with a thought controlling global media empire yet his Investigative Team is bonkers over "exit polls" being solicited by hedge funds. What if the polls had been as wrong on the outcome as the elites were wrong?

    CME NYMEX COMEX are down

Yea, at the time YM wasn't yet on Globex (pre-CME/CBOT merger) so I thought about hedging there, and if I known beforehand that the Dow would close +155, I would have.

    CME NYMEX COMEX are down

I'll share a funny story. In 2003 (i think) I was short an ES and working the bid side to cover with an IB account. It was around 10:30am, when the quotes stopped changing. I looked on ET and saw that Globex was down. No word from IB. My position was still, short 1 ES. All day, the CME kept...

    Options commission question....Tasty Works......

Unless I'm mistaken, the only payments that IB receives are liquidity rebates from Exchanges. And, if you suspect that IB only routes your orders to exchanges paying the highest rebates, then you have the option to route wherever you want. I'm not sure that any other retail firm gives customers...

    Options commission question....Tasty Works......

In answer to Robert, FSU and srnir: I realize that IB is far from perfect. HOWEVER, would you rather have your complex order shopped to whatever MM pays the highest rebate? Option spreads and multi-leg orders are the last frontier of theft for discount* firms. The juiciest rebates offered are...

    Options commission question....Tasty Works......

Unless you're legging, you're nuts to trade complex orders anywhere other than IB.
