Ignore the last post I think I figured it out. You can install 2000 over XP you have to load the Bios on the initial boot of the computer. That was the part I was missing. thanks for everyones help.

I don't care if I can reload XP again. I would prefer to be able to keep the files that are on the hard drive. I am trying what echo suggested but forgive my ignorance I can't figure out how to change the settings to boot from the cdrom.
