    IB balance sheet leverage

So, would my 80-to-1 vs 16.5-to-1 calculation be more apples-to-apples then? Trust me, I'm likewise trying to figure this out because I have a tiny MF account that's currently inaccessible, but I have a substantial account at IB that I'd like to feel comfortable keeping 100% there. Best.

The fact that you demand a response in the first place is all the more proof that you are self-absorbed. You need to take a breather from posting zd. As much as you believe the ET community can benefit from your pseudo-wisdom, you've far exceeded your quota for the day.

    IB balance sheet leverage

The 33-to-1 MF ratio comes from dividing aggregate total assets ($45.93B) by total equity ($1.39B). If you do the same to IB the number appears to be a paultry 7-to-1 ($33.15B assets vs. $4.63B equity). As for the 80-to-1 ratio, this is a total guess, but it looks like they might be taking...

If zd had been checking the thread instead of being obsessed with his own posts, he would've seen the issue was already resolved (thanks to Daal, who was respectful and, unlike zd, actually added to the conversation). zd's self-absorbed behavior frankly speaks for itself. For zd, it's...

Jesus zd. Just drop it already. Try for once to add to the conversation instead of detracting from it by "criticizing" others. Your insistence on continuing this back & forth is, again, pathetic.

Wow zd. You start with the attacks and then become defensive and thin-skinned when responded to. Pathetic & laughable.

Thanks Daal. Goes to prove that I shouldn't trust Yahoo finance as a quick source of financial info. Their numbers are completely out of whack.

Not sure where zdreg's animosity comes from. I guess posting over 6600 times on this messageboard instead of doing any real trading makes him feel like an expert trader who owns ET.

Attached is MF Global's most recent 10Q. It looks like the way their leverage was reported in the press was based simply on their total liabilities ($44.4B) and their total stockholder equity ($1.39B). If we compare apples to apples, would we do the same for IB, which has $28.0B in liabilities...

Can What Happened to MF Happen to IB?

Autoliquidation isn't really relevant. That only applies to their client traders. MF's downfall wasn't due to their clients making massive unhedged bets. It was MF making those bad bets on their own accounts. I wouldn't be surprised if IB doesn't apply the same autoliquidate rules on their...

Can What Happened to MF Happen to IB?

I'm sure they'll insist "no", but they also trade their own account. MF going down was a minor annoyance to me, as I had a tiny account with them. But, if IB went down, I'd be hosed.

WSJ -- Small Traders Left Adrift After MF Global Collapse

Fortunately, I suppose, I had a very small account here. I feel terrible for all those retail traders (and MFAs, for that matter) that had a big chunk of their tradable funds here... Small Traders Left Adrift After MF Global Collapse Small traders and investors were reeling for the...

How to Take Advantage of the CNY Reval?

I know nothing about forex, but I would think that the .3% daily trading range that China will allow on the CNY will guarantee a huge move vs the USD over time. To the forex traders out there, do you agree? And if so, what's the best way to take advantage of such a move? (Not that I would...

Shortable Stocks -- IB vs. Cybertrader

I just went to the Genesis website to get their list of shortable stocks so I could compare it with IB. Pretty stunning difference! Whereas IB offers 5,977 US stocks for shorting, Genesis only offers 3,943. Pretty amazing difference. I think it would take me a lot to switch from IB...

Thanks for the input, Farside. Are there no Cybertrader users coming to its defense?!!! :)

Tax Question -- Joint Tenants in Common

Thanks for the free advice kent! I just ordered the Green Trader Tax book, so I'll dig a little deeper into the matter. Then I'll probably just go ahead and set up a consultation with them.
