    Black Box

Dustin, so true...so true. The sad fact is most traders would probably be better off quitting trading and doing just this...specializing in programming or providing other services to traders. It's like the California Gold Rush...very, very few prospectors made it rich. In fact, most Gold...

    Tradeguider

A trader in my office is currently using the RT version of TradeGuider and he is very happy with it. He's been trading mainly ES and EC, and like a previous poster stated, it has a knack for catching reversals. It apparently uses price and volume analysis in the Richard Wyckoff tradition to...

    Controlling mood swings (P&L induced)

I've been in a slump for several weeks now, and I have just recently decided to remove my open P/L column from my trading platform. I did so because I was noticing that I was making decisions based on the P/L, not based on what the charts and depth of market were telling me. So far, it has...

Please help! How to setup friends accounts?

Good point. I've never had any good experiences mixing family and money. I guess the thing to consider is whether or not the family members who want you to manage money for them TRULY, and I mean TRULY understand that they are putting up risk capital with you...not $$ needed for Jenny's...

    A Basic Question About Qqq

If what you are asking is if you can short QQQ just as easily as you can short the NQ futures, then the answer is yes. Is this what you were asking?

Best way to get a financial advisor job at a brokerage firm

While it is true that once you are hired, your primary purpose is to be a sales person, it is also true that firms look for college grads. What I'd recommend is that you write a very compelling cover letter to accompany your resume. Focus on your 7 years of experience and your sales...

    Toughest trade in the world: S & P 500?

I think the biggest mistake most beginning futures traders make is that they try to trade the ES or NQ without sufficient capital. This is largely, I think, a by-product of the $25k PDT rule...so small account traders have no recourse but to trade the futures rather than stocks. It is quite...

    S&P about out of gas?

I think you are right. Overblown selling. That being said, it would not surprise me to see a small amount of reflex buying after Monday's slaughter, but I don't think anything significant will happen to the upside. And, yes, the big buyers, if there are any, will be waiting for key earnings.

whatever happened with Green Tree Trading?

No, Rob Tharp has never worked for GreenTree. If I'm not mistaken, Robert Tharp was based out of a firm in San Diego, not San Francisco.

whatever happened with Green Tree Trading?

I first started at GreenTree in January of 2003. Back then, we were trading in a small office in San Jose, CA. It was big enough to accommodate maybe 6 guys. In just a little over a year the firm has moved its operation to the financial district of San Francisco and has two offices in the...

    "Legging" into an options position

I just started trading multiple-leg spreads recently, so I'm a newbie in this area. But I have already found that, as the person quoted above mentioned, in the index options, it is relatively easy to get filled 10c or more better than the posted B/A. A little patience and the willingness to...

    screen resolution

I have a kinda funky set up right now. Three 15" Viewsonic LCD flat panels set at 1024 x768 and one giant 21" CRT set at 1600x1200, which on a screen this big doesn't make things look too small, but it is good for running X_Trader on, as I find it takes up a lot of screen real estate.

    Strategy???

I suppose as a pure scalp play, it could be quite effective. The trick would be to figure out what is a good target to go after depending on what report it is and how it compares to the estimates.

    Strategy???

This is harder to pull off than it seems. The futures often spike one way and then dart in the other direction (i.e., the real move). This doesn't always happen, but enough to make this a tough trade to do for every econ report.

mid-20s non-prop trader requesting OPM trading info.

A good way for you to start managing OPM is to become an exempt CTA, which means that you can manage money for (I believe) up to 15 people and up to a total of $250,000 (it might be $200,000 so check with the NFA and the CFTC). You can do this with family and friends and aquantances, but you...

Before you spend $1 on a system read this.

I must concur...great post. Although I've never paid money outright for a system, I have incorporated many trading ideas into my own trading from various books and trading magazines over the years. What have I learned? The same thing as you learned...the system has to make sense to YOU, the...

    pro traders returns

Depends on what you mean by pro. If you're at the helm of a $100 million hedge fund and you return 30% you're a hero. If you're trading your own $50,000 account and you return only 30%, you would have been better off flipping burgers at Wendy's. In other words, the goodness of your return...

Merry Christmas to all the ET option traders!!!!!

Merry Christmas to you, too. I plan to be among the options posters next year, as I am going to be adding options trading to my arsenal (I'm currently mostly a futures trader). I am taking a series of options classes given by Michael Williams, co-author of "Fundamentals of the Options...
