    Playing the Saddam Gap

Opening gaps (based on Globex BID/ASK) appear: NQ +25.5 (1445) ES +9 (1083.00) I'll guess that NQ can usually eke out +30 on a rally, ES, +12. Thoughts? My bet - retrace should only be about %50, so go long at: NQ 1431 (+13) ES 1078.5 (+4.5) 15 mins till Globex opens...

Biggest losing day of the year today...

Today was expected to be low volume right? Total chop w/ FOMC tomorrow, none of the big players were doing anything anyway. So don't expect any big moves. It DOES seem that one might want to have several playbooks/systems to work w/. Identify the type of day, and play accordingly. If...

    Daytrading Without Stops

Check out "When Genius Failed" by Roger Lowenstein (Long-Term Capital Management) to see just how much can be lost putting complete faith into a stopless system. It's a good read. And while bond arbitrage is quite different from NQ 3 min's it's a darn good lesson. As far as I can tell...

Can this market get any more pathetic

Or are you referring to overnight gap and then narrow range during day, and then overnight gap, and then narrow day, and then...

Can this market get any more pathetic

So if there's no trend, but stuff is in a tight range, why not try to sell straddles or buy butterfly spreads? Reverse position on straddle when things look like they'll heat up (volatility increases).

MIR--- how should I play this?

Just sit and wait. If some *BIG* buyer/seller comes in, then somebody out there probably knows something. Dump it when the news breaks. Check out how DYN behaved a while back. They skirted bk. BTW: How did anyone get shaken out today? Should have been a drop kick short and cover. Were...

    Daytrading Without Stops

Making random decisions on a system w/ noise, like lunch hour whipsaw, should have expected mean of zero.

    Daytrading Without Stops

A friend of mine and I talked about something along these lines (after a LOT of beer, yeah we have nothing better to talk about after 6 beers): Randomly go long/short, set a trailing loss to 4 ticks. Move it up every 4 ticks. Expected outcome: minus commission and slippage, you break exactly...

Can this market get any more pathetic

Bored? Try playing w/ something *other* than your main trade area. Don't screw up your big trades because of boredom. I usually toy w/ small lot option plays - takes a bit more creativity, usually don't make all that much, but they're almost always there. Just don't let them run too far...

    Ellison on Black Scholes

Yeah, ol Larry is a BS'er like no other. Probably thinks the Greeks have something to do w/ frat houses...

    YHOO down AH

And c'mon, PE of 146. Doesn't that mean if earnings stay the same (zero earnings growth), Yahoo would be worth what it is now in 146 years (or am I wrong about that)? I trade of technicals, not fundamentals anyway. Another way of looking at it is w/ 15% annual growth in earnings (never...

    YHOO down AH

Sure seems to be a "buy the rummor, sell the news sort of thing". Stock starts running up, and you know somebody out there knows something. Big fat earnings article plastered over CNBC, time to hit that sell button!

    YHOO down AH

Down over 2pts. That's pretty big for AH right? Today was heavy vol w/ no progress. Glad I'm not long. Timber?

    Learn to Trade

A quick glance at CAL shows it in a somewhat tight range over a few days. Are you expecting an breakout tomorrow? Why up? Why tomorrow? If there's no explanation of the method behind these predictions, then we have an ORCL in our midst whose predictions should be directed to YHOO message...

    Straight up tomorrow

OK, so everyone IS in agreement that this is all gonna crash sooner or later. But you're foolish to jump the gun on it - wait to the new mini-bubble to grow and then pop (just like April 2000). Ride it up and cash in, or sit on the sidelines and cry, whatever - but don't lose money...

Decreasing interest rates, increasing unemployment and high bullish sentinment?

The current economic and market conditions do raise questions: Why should anyone buy in now, given the current conditions and valuations? The average P/E's of the S&P still seem to be floating well above 30 (on par w/ late 90's bubble), the economy is looking shaky at best and interest rate...

    Any one following program trading?

Go to ET: Training, Computer-Based Trading, Using Fair Value. Looks like "picking up nickles in front of a bull dozer" . Better know what you're doing. Those dozer drivers know you are out there and are programmed to run you over.

EBAY @ $109 has the Best-looking chart since Nov 02

I'm one of the wise asses who boasted a short bid at $99 (cover at $101). HOWEVER, I stopped and realized that technically there was ABSOLUTELY NO REASON to go short! This was a purely discressionary trade, having nothing to do w/ a tried and true trade strategy. Lessons learned: 1)...

    Day 63.....

3-4 month learning period makes much more sense (a bit more believeable). Thanks for the info on meeting a group in chat forum. University business school libraries are a good place to browse the literature. I happen to live near the UC Berkeley School of Business (Haas). While an ok...
