Fighting the HFT algos... daytraders and floor traders vs. HFT traders

Jack: Thanks....you have given me an alternate viewpoint...and frankly, I find that I have nothing more to say....or to put forward... ...off with integrity and rose colored glasses....or not? well its a moral issue, maybe not a real one... Ciao! Sanjay.

Fighting the HFT algos... daytraders and floor traders vs. HFT traders

Jack: So you are saying that an operator "way past integrity" (damn...I like that phrase!), but operating effectively, using larger resources than majority of the market, should be allowed to dictate/corner the market, as legilators will always be lagging. You are saying until such an...

Fighting the HFT algos... daytraders and floor traders vs. HFT traders

Yes, I believe that these flash orders/quote stuffing are one of the major issues that need to be put a stop to. I don't think that there could be any genuine support for them. I believe these orders are sort of feelers....to check the market pulse...to check where ask/bid LIMITS are...to...

Fighting the HFT algos... daytraders and floor traders vs. HFT traders

I understood some of what you said. I guess I am yet to arrive ;-) However, you have not addressed the evolution of dark pools....so they use algos to minimize the impact on market, but here entire new toolsets are being created for bulk algos, ones which will never be reflected on the...

    platform for automated trading

I apologize, if it seems so. I am an ardent admirer of what Marketcetera is trying to do. As an open source project however, its target market is irrelevant. If I can deploy it....its for me :D Its as simple as that. But it does seem that the meltdown came at the wrong time for them. Had...

Fighting the HFT algos... daytraders and floor traders vs. HFT traders

I am a newbie....and I have a question... Exchanges were built to bring in transparency....Dark Pools were subsequently built to circumvent that... HFT has a cause, greater efficiency....but isn't submitting hundreds of thousands of orders just to find market pressure points or other algo...

what type of strategies do you guys run?

I am a noob too. Tinkering with Amibroker & IB. Reversion to mean is only thing I know about a bit and various MAs are the only tools I use sometimes with filters like MACD & RSI. But I get my tail cut off in whipsaws many times.... filtering out those periods ruins best entries too...

    platform for automated trading

How much of reinventing the wheel is required in Tradelink? What I mean is that many open source softwares (one of the best examples marketcetera....one with very good foundations) doesn't have basic indicators......such an issue could have been solved with a calling interface to TAlib or...

How do you handle asynchronous nature of IB API?

@Chronos I am a newbie....just playing with Amibroker & TWS api and wondering what the optimum elegant solution should be...was just thinking that order execution should be forked over to a new thread which should report back.... You have given me a whole new perspective...my thanks...

    Marketcetera

I have been recently evaluating Marketcetera for deployment in my company compared to some other proprietary tools and got links from this thread about some other open source tools to check out. Marketcetera does not seem to support FX as yet. Another problem is their lack of out of box...

Backtesting Pains-How to store data locally for multiple backtestings at wire speed

Actually the original post was about creating a feed server that would take historical feed by CD and add to it with the real time quotes. That was to be a server on the LAN to provide data at LAN speeds to a proposed GRID of common computers to run multiple simulations/backtests/optimizations...

Backtesting Pains-How to store data locally for multiple backtestings at wire speed

Actually, I am intending to analyze tick data and somewhat quasi real-time data. Real Time data is supposed to be added to the historical data store, as it comes in, rather than be accessed on slow internet speeds it can be accessed by multiple simulations at LAN speeds. I agree, but then thats...

Software requirement for a Prop. Trading firm?
