Can I install 10TB HDD in Dell T-7500 workstation ?

"Should" work fine...if it is SATA, any SATA drive should work. 6TB was probably just the largest Dell offered at the time. That said you never know for sure until you try. FYI Dell and HP often try to sell "their" hdd's, etc., for server upgrades when a generic one will do just fine.

IB lost 50m on BRK irregular trades

I don't know specifically, but it could be due to stop-market orders, a even more dangerous order type. I hope everyone here can see why...

IB lost 50m on BRK irregular trades

Market orders are totally stupid in the current US equity market structure, which is largely based on the simple, yet brilliantly-implemented, Island ECN of the late 1990's (with props to Archipelago ECN as well). Island originally always required a limit price, and there is a very good reason...

    Orders Tied To The Bid/Ask

Won't that potentially cause you to go over the 390 orders/day average and thereby becone a "professional" and lose retail priority and/or your accouny (if the broker can't handle this situation)? I don't know how these dynamic order types work, but I am guessing that if they are broker...

    Delay issues when fetching news

Some of the "*Wire" feeds are intentionally delayed by ~5 minutes to make it hard for the average joe to trade from them without paying enormous fees. I am sorry to say it but HFT and others who pay $20,000 per month for Bloomberg's flagship API feed are not similarly delayed...

Strategy talk: Option Strategies For A Modest Correction in SPY or QQQ

PFOF does exist in Canada, it's just called "broker preferencing". It amounts to the same thing and is just as much of a tax on the retail/institutional trader as anything else, aside from the fact that it's a BIT more competitive in that the Canadian brokers will sell this flow to a slightly...

question about pre market order for US stock

The exchange is not Island now -- it is Nasdaq, and that is the primary exchange for that security -- that is also why its volume is so high at the open compared with the other exchanges. Volume at open seems consistently high for PENN -- 33648 on Feb 27, 33914 on Feb 26, etc. If your feed is...

question about pre market order for US stock

This is the official open from Nasdaq, I can confirm with my own data. It is NOT a VWAP, as an earlier poster had speculated (a good guess, but wrong in this case). Nasdaq bought Island like 20 years ago, and apparently your data feed is still using the old Island name (confusingly). The open...

Algo trading system gives 8371% profit in backtesting. Is it real?

One major problem: it is a long-only strategy on AAPL, which returned 100,000% since 1993 (approximately 20 cents to $200, dividends reinvested). So this strategy actually vastly underperformed a buy-and-hodl strategy over the same period, and hence is totally worthless.

    TD Ameritrade API Questions

Yeah, the INTC historical volatility was closer to the mark I'd say. In any event, I would not trust TDAmeritrade's API to pick my sock color in the morning not to mention provide important financial data off of which to trade, and there are an infinite number of ways to calculate historical...

    TD Ameritrade API Questions

Probably it's daily (based on trading days only). So, assuming that's true, and since "volatility" in the retail options world is really an sd (or square root of "volatility" in the statistics world), convert this daily value to yearly by multipling it by sqrt(252), 252 being approx. the number...

Lime does not internalize at all, as far as I know. Also, you can opt out of that new IB internalization on IB Pro. Also, many retail brokers allow you to route ("direct") an order yourself to a particular exchange, and these should never be internalized, AFIK.

What to do with very large option spreads?

Part of this is also due to the explosion in number of contracts (exp dates and strikes) as well as number of options exchanges, all of which reduce liquidity and widen spreads, to the benefit of a small number of large options mm's that buy order flow from retail brokers. So yeah, you got free...

How do I Choose before Dell Ships Workstation

What is the CPU? Also, why buy a "workstation"? IMO most typical use cases will run much quicker on a "mainstream" CPU such as 12900K by Intel or 7950X by AMD (such as in the Dell Dimension lines). You need a very good justification to spend the extra $ for a highly-threaded "workstation"...

MEMX Gains SEC Approval to Trade Options

There is merit to competition in and of itself, but there are now far too many venues that offer little to nothing that's truly different or innovative. The result is a more fragmented, complex market that is easier for HFT's to game, not to mention the ever-growing spam of mostly-useless data...

Employees Scrambled to Keep Robinhood Afloat in January 2021 Meme-Stock Frenzy, House Report Finds

There's an interesting admission implicit in the source article (published in WSJ today) repeatedly referring to Citadel as Robinhood's "biggest customer". The individual investors who use the app are not really "customers"...they are the product. when the product is free, YOU are the product

The new middle-class gambling addicts: how day trading is ruining lives

All excellent points, thanks! More generally, any case in which the client trades only against their broker inherently (and severely) disadvantages the client; this is true of "bucket shop" forex as well. To a lesser (but much more widespread) degree, this also holds true of any "free" retail...

$300K from Overseas Property Sale where best to invest for 12 Months

One issue with many preferred's is that under an acquisition of the company, the new management can make your shares worthless (or nearly so), even as the common stock soars. It happens surprisingly frequently and is perfectly legal, at least as the law is presently administered (despite the...
