From 'Where are the Customers' Yachts' by Fred Schwed, Jr.
"Your average Wall Streeter, faced with nothing profitable to do, does nothing for only a brief time. Then, suddenly and hysterically, he does something which turns out to be extremely unprofitable. He is not a lazy man."
Ditto, cannot see where realmoney is worth $25/mo, especially since you can get a lot of the stuff delayed on the street.com.
Should be good for Toddo's site though, also going to cancel and subscribe to Minyanville( although that name is something).
I average in both shorts and longs as needed. Seems like the key is to start with a postion small enough so averaging can work.
For and account under 50K this is 200/300 share lots and you have to give the stock plenty of room to move 4 or 5 points.
Does not work as well for daytrading where...
Magna is right, most depends on what is used to generate your signal. I find that the EMA works better for the short term MA and the SMA for the trend. Problem with MA crossovers is you will get whipsaw a lot on choppy days, so you need to find a confirmation signal before taking trade on...
I was wondering the same thing, since economic news has not been all that good.
Jim Cramer "We saw the same thing today. While the market was up before the refinery fire, it wasn't up this much. What has happened is that the traders who bought puts in the window between the refinery incident...
Arca is good for shorting, can place order on a downtick and the software will automatically place it .01 higher than best bid.
Supoose only takes 100 sh at .01 up, will take rest at your limit price or better after bid tiks up.
Although i use island for everything else, longs and shorts where...
Seems if all positions are net long or net short, margin is not a good idea because of event risk. A mix of long and short will help you sleep at nite, but does lower overall returns.
White, exactly time value. You need to go one strike ITM to get corresponding movement with price. This only applys to short term options. Longer term more time value(premium) so less movement. Look up mavericks threads, lot of good stuff there.
I have realtime option quotes and also used the delayed quotes from CBOE( larger file size, more mos.) CBOE quotes are accurate.
A lot of time at the money options move very little because of the large amount of premium built into the option this far away from expiration. If you go one strike...
I think Warren Buffetts business' are real, i.e. they make money.
Although that analogy may apply to other companies and there is always a lot of fog in the stockmarket. Vast majority of companies do turn significant profits.
Still considering adding the extra RAM,
1GB,DDR266 SDRAM Memory,ECC (2 DIMMS) [add $291.00]
1GB,DDR266 SDRAM Memory,ECC (4 DIMMS) [add $240.00]
Whats the difference?? is one using 512 sticks and the other 256 sticks, does that effect performance?
Hey all, thanx for all the input.
So in summary better to go with Xeon 2.0 processor with 512MB
RAM, other is Xeon 2.4 processor with 256MB RAm for same price;
Windows 2000 for OS instead of Windows XP;
two ATI Radeon VE cards for future expansion to four monitors;
comes with 40GIG...
Looking to purchase new dell P4 or Xeon system configured for two or more monitors. Presently running Windows 98 SE with two monitors, no problems but after reading these threads obviously it could be better.
Also remember seeing somewhere here that some P4 motherboards are difficult to get...
Agree with cheeks on this one. Presently have 8 longs, about 6 shorts, short one gold stock which does not fit in any category. If you mix and match NYSE and NAS get a relatively even mix. NAS generally fall much faster that NYSE, keeps drawdowns to a minimum. Up days the greater # of...
Yeah, i think postion size is the most important part of risk management for swing trades anyway. If trade does not go my way in a day or two, i will let it move 5 points, add another 25% and then sell or cover the second 25% plus a percentage of the original trade. Do this five or six times...
Know for sure the specialist will play with your market order.
Suppose XYZ is bid 15.75, you place market order, he takes 100 at 15.75, drops the bid to 15.70, takes 900 and then moves bid back to 15.75. Happened to me a couple times, so now I almost always use limits with NYSE.
qdz, you gotta focus on making profits, dude.
I am sure by now you have found that certain setups are much more likely to go your way that others, take only these trades, forget the rest, get a feel for what works for you and the PDT rule really doesn"t matter. Cash is always better than a...
