What is the most you've been margined?

Back in 99, I ran my stock account up to a little over $1mil. fully margined all the way. I remember talking about my margin balance with my buddy and he said I was crazy. He was right. I lost half my account in about 2 weeks in March of 2K and the rest of the account over the next 4 months...

    TurtleTrader.com experiences?

I purchased the course for $1000 in 2000. At that point in time, I had just lost 90% of my investment account. (over leveraged with long only positions during the bubble years w/o an exit strategy). What I learned from the material is the importance of position sizing. For me it was...

    Rolling over positions

I'm new to trading futures. I have been trading equities with a longer term time frame, holding positions up to 9 months sometimes. If I'm holding some ES contracts come expiration in DEC, what is the best way to rollover the contracts if I wish to keep my trade going? I know I have to...

    Conviction and averaging down

The worst thing for a trader, particularly a newer trader, is to average down and then come out whole or ahead. This will reinforce in his mind that its ok to average down. All it takes is one time where he can least afford it to have the market continue to go against him and blowout the...

    Turtletrader- Long-term Trend-Following

My methodology is based mostly on the Turtle Trendfollowing system. However, I have made changes, for better or worse, and I have been profitable overall. I feel the core of Turtle Trading is money management. Also, be prepared to deal with drawdowns. Last year I was up 100% after 10 months...

    Newbie questions.

Thanks Tech, That was my belief when I decided to open a futures account. I figure that if I can survive trading Techs, I should be able to survive trading ES or SP. And if I can generate the same results as before, I will be ahead with the favorable tax treatment. I guess I'm a little...

    Newbie questions.

Thank you all for the replys. I'm not a scalper or daytrader. I hold my positions for days, sometimes weeks. Are you saying that the ES is more volatile than the Tech stocks I've been trading? Any other advice will be greatly appreciated.

I'm in this position, where I am down %99.997. I'm holding.

I think its time to move on. That trade is like a deep flesh wound. As long as you keep holding it, the wound will not heal. Everytime you look at your account and you see it there, it affects you psychologically, like you just pealed the scab away. I hope you get the drift. Good luck

    Newbie questions.

I have been trading equities for the past 3 years and have been profitable. I have decided to give futures trading a try and just opened an account with IB. I am planning to start trading the e-mini s&P. The question I have is what is the difference between the Globex and the regular CME...
