    Philadelphia Region?

I'm Philadelphia regional and trade from home. There are only three places that I know of that actually have sit-in offices: * T3 Live, located in Jenkintown. * Coastal Trade Securities, at 19th and Arch. * AMR Trading, at the PHLX. Geoff Aton runs the place; he's a nice guy, though I've...

How much money have you lost before figuring it out???

I've lost about 70k over the years (not all of it my own money) before figuring things out.

Mozilla pays 12-year-old boy for finding bug in browser

Mozilla.org is a non-profit. You can't trade it. You can short MSFT or GOOG, but those two companies are much larger than their browser business, so caveat emptor.

    Looking for funding

I haven't seen anything that says you can't. I don't know for certain what legal issues there are, if any, and I know some US traders do (trade with Canadian firms.) In any case, I'm going ahead and doing it anyway.

    Looking for funding

Canadian firms offer lower commissions ($.20/1000 to $1.00/1000) and lower payouts (50% to 80%). American firms charge higher commissions ($1.25/1000 to $5.00/1000), but give higher payouts (80%-95%.) Some screwballs try to get you to pay more than $5/1000, but you're better off ignoring them...

    Bar based Autotrading

That is true. Here's an example of what he meant though: if (high of this bar < high of last bar + standarddeviation(high, 5 bars)) then sell 1*10^15 shares market; If the high of this bar goes too much higher, then it'll no longer be a sell signal.

software already written in java/c sharp

For your strategy, did you develop your own ParseFeed(), ParseMessage(), SendOrder() and etc functions, or are they currently just empty shells? If your strategy has been coded theoretically only, I'd suggest looking into Tradelink (tradelink.google.com), OpenQuant (www.smartquant.com), or...

US-based trader looking to work with Canadian firms - what should I watch out for?

Anyone doing this? What issues should I watch out for? (I'm thinking as pertains to legal issues, tax filing and accounting, specifically - though any other advice is appreciated.)

    Bar based Autotrading

From what I'm gathering, this is what you're hypothesizing: * A backtest using data that's 1 bar old outperforms a backtest using data that's 2 bars old * Therefore, if going live where we can react to the current bar, it should outperform the 1-bar-back backtest in the same way the...

    SFG Trading

I was going through the steps to set up an account with these guys. Before I actually deposited my capital, however, my point of contact left the firm. He recommended against opening an account with these guys. According to him, there's been a relatively large shakeup within the company and...

    Anyone experience with OceanView

JCTrading is a division of OceanView. I can't say much about OceanView itself, but JCTrading seems to have a good reputation here on ET.

How do you cross-check prop firms / trading groups?

What methods can you use to check if a trading group or prop firm is reliable before signing up with them and giving them your money? Do they have to register with the SEC and FINRA (regardless of country)? Does that only apply to broker-dealers? I've gone primarily by...

488 out of 500 up on Friday

A day-to-day change doesn't mean much - the stocks could've just as easily fallen by just as much the day before. You might be better off looking on a weekly scale if you want to use market performance to develop a bias.

    Gold Correlation

Over the long run (3 months+), gold has a fairly stable correlation with oil and silver. In the short term (like within a day), it's much more susceptible to news shocks, noise, and other idiosyncrasies.

    Job Offer at Title Trading

Late input here: .20 per 1000 is a great rate, especially if you're a high frequency guy like me. 35% payout, on the other hand, even combined with the .20 rate, is below what you can get on the market. Most firms don't try to take more than 50%, though their rates may vary. 0.20 / 1000...

    Top Target Traders - Toronto?

I'm not Canadian nor near Toronto so I can't really help you. The name seems a little gaudy, which mainly is an indication that he's a smalltime firm. Being smalltime isn't necessarily a bad thing; just be on the lookout for the usual tricks. Ask a bunch of different firms what rates they...

    SFG Trading

I'm interesting in knowing more about these guys as well. I've talked with them a bit for automated systems trading, and they seem to offer a pretty good deal. I don't know anything about their street reputation though.

    API-capable platforms with front-ends/datafeeds built-in?

I've been poking around with the commercially available execution platforms out there, and it seems like a lot of them just provide you with raw socket data and you have to build out the data parser / risk management. Does anyone know of a 'full-service' platform, ie one that provides: *...

What is the job market like for developers/quants?

It does look really irritating. Everyone's hiring, it looks like, but the deals aren't so great.
