Challenging an old adage- tightening stops

LOL :) My mistake Mike, I thought this thread was opened up for DISCUSSION. I'll just crawl back to my 'research' :)

Challenging an old adage- tightening stops

This is the exact problem with the 2*ATR stop you suggested. It is NOT constant throughout the trade. Assuming you enter near the start of the trend, it will be tight due to the consolidating market preceding the range expansion(not necessarily a bad thing -- it is lower risk). Then near the...

Challenging an old adage- tightening stops

Actually, no. There is no such thing as a holy grail whether it be entry or exit. Agreed. Key is consistency in applying your method with positive expectancy. That being said, DIFFERENT exit methods should be applied during the appropriate market conditions (combo of targets S/R and...

Challenging an old adage- tightening stops

I'm not surprised something like that works so well. A good exit strategy is one that is aware of both current market conditions and current trade performance. DH

Challenging an old adage- tightening stops

Very interesting take on the subject Mike. I am currently working on a study on this trade management idea and gathering statistics along with other different management strategies. I don't have the hard facts yet but I do believe that once your trade has proven you correct directionwise it is...

Hindsight :p I moved to a longer timeframe daily ,30 60. What you are working on is more 'micro'. I don't want to dissuade you from your research but my belief is that the smaller timeframes are dominated by extremely large institutions like DE Shaw that do arbritrage all decked with super...

Interesting. I had the time frame selectable but in a different sense. 5 min meant the number of contracts hitting the bid or ask within that bar. Heck why not do both ... have one for time delimited and another for #of contracts...

In my earlier pursuits I had this 'indicator' programmed into my system. I wasn't able to garner much useful info from it BUT i might not have given it enough time. I eventually moved onto higher timeframes systems ...

    Toby Crabel Book...

You often hear that there is nothing out there in the public domain that is useful. I don't think it's the case at all. There are plenty of good ideas out there ( albeit plenty of useless ones as well) but you must be willing to expend the effort to sift through it till you find the useful...

Not to say complicated can not work (just look at Prediction Company). But it definitely takes time and resources.

    Toby Crabel Book...

The book centers on commodity trading but the patterns are applicable to stocks as well.

Excellent point. Missing trades in mechanical systems is just plain stupid. Interesting concept. [B] Complicated != better.
