This site explains the pattern trader rule pretty well: http://www.patterndaytraderrule.com

US Equity Markets Closed Tuesday Jan 2nd

They are both closed, Nssdaq and Nyse. NYSE just posted the message on their site too: http://www.nyse.com/Frameset.html?nyseref=http%3A//www.nyse.com&displayPage=/press/1167219778099.html

NYSE Closing for President Ford's Funeral?

It would be unusual if they didn't close for at least 1/2 a day. They always close for the whole day or at least 1/2 day when a president dies. Reagan was the whole day.

    why does everyone knock CNBC?

I like CNBC its the best stock market based news station out there. Its the only station for this kind of news thats worth anything IMO. Obviously I wouldnt be trading off information received on CNBC, but overall I definitely lke watching it for entertainment. I keep it on all day every...

What do you believe to be a large amount of cash?

$1 million is just a start, but it certainly is not enough, at least not in the NY area. Trust me I know. Like some have said maybe in some parts of the country it would be enough. I wouldn't know about middle America or what things cost out there. I think for myself, I would need to be in...

    Customer support - GENESIS

I would have to agree. Even traders who know what they are doing occasionally have questions and need assistance with various issues. I have found that alot of these direct access brokers used to have horrible customer service. Included in the horrible customer service group IMO are Genesis...

    SpeedTrader?

I disagree slightly. I think the most important thing to these firms is how often you trade, not really how much capital you have. They make most of their money based on trading volume. Obviously you need over $25,000 just to day trade, so thats a necessity capital wise. Beyond that I...

    SpeedTrader?

Probably because their servers are in the same building as INET, so you can't really get any faster than that. BRUT and INET are merging to single book, so I can't see what BRUT ping time even matters for going forward. As far as what was discussed earlier, everybody obviously doesn't get...

    Your favorite indicator

LOL, I use DMI / ADX mostly along with futures. Indicators are not for suckers. Maybe YOU are a sucker the way you use them, but don't make unsubstantiated blanket statements that everybody who uses indicators is a sucker. Maybe you should tell my bank account about what a sucker I am for...

Level2 to watch only, Level to order

Who charges different commissions for Level 1 vs Level 2? The commission should be the same regardless of level. You may pay different monthly quote data fees for Level 1 vs Level 2, but not different commissions.

    comission is negotiatable

You have got to be kidding me. I hope you are not really this clueless. Here's your answer: The broker's software has different deals programmed into it. The broker sets up your account on the software and attaches that account to whatever deal you made with them. The software calculates...

Are the big firms "stealing" ECN rebates?

If the firm does that much volume, I don't see why they shouldn't keep it. Its their firm wide volume, not your individual volume that gets them to those numbers. We are all looking for good commission deals, but the commission rates have gone down alot in recent years. Cut them some slack these...

How to hit bids and offers on NYSE and NAZ

Thats probably because your broker turns off the INET reroute feature from their server side. Some brokers may do that because yes, they charge more for reroute (extra .001). INET reroute being available is a 100% fact and not debatable. It is and has been available since the merger. I do it...

How to hit bids and offers on NYSE and NAZ

You are wrong. INET market does the same thing as ARCA market. If it can't fill you it will re-route to whoever can do it. It has been like this ever since ISLD merged with INCA to form INET, which was quite some time ago. This is a fact.

Anyone else think Elliot Wave is a bunch of hooey?

Elliot wave is total BS. IMO

How to hit bids and offers on NYSE and NAZ

INET does do market orders. The old ISLD did not do market orders, but INET does do market orders.

    $1,000,000 in 3 Months

The only real way I can think of is being in on a couple penny stocks that explode. For example: Lets say you bought $50,000 worth of FHAL on 7/11. That would be 500,000 shares when it was .10 a share. Then you sell it on 7/24 at 1.60 a share. You just made 1.50 a share on 500,000 shares...

    Foreign broker for <25K account

The only broker I know of that allows day trading under $25k is Alliance Investment Site: http://www.alldaytraders.com My buddy has used them for several years now. They give 4 to 1 intraday BP and the let you trade as much as you want. I think the minimum equity they require is only $2k...

Any Good Free Papertrading Site or Software

There is a simulator on Realfasttrader that can trade both stocks and emini futures: http://www.realfasttrader.com/dastraderdemo.html It automatically lets you trade stock, but if you call or email after you sign up, just tell them the demo user name and they'll enable it to trade futures too.

    IB: is it really good???

The price isn't bad. As long as you're not looking for good (or nice) customer service they're ok.
