    Spread/Pairs charting package

CQG is still the undisputed champion of spreads. Leading the league in at LEAST six statistical categories.

    Spread/Pairs charting package

Jut an update for anyone using eSignal with a similar problem. Use a 390 min chart (the number of mins in NYSE trading session) and set you time to the correct session and you get a pretty decent representation of the real highs and lows of daily spread bars. One problem I ran into is that...

    World's most liveable cities!

I live in Vancouver and can agree with some of what you mentioned. I love the city, but it's still got problems. Another poster mentioned how expensive the Vancouver is, and I can vouch for that. I read somewhere that relative to income, it's now the most expensive city to live in the world.

Reversion To the Mean (RTM) Intraday Strategies

I agree. The only way is to assume that the change will probably happen and size your positions correctly. This happens over and over you get a nice spread that chops back and fourth, you push your size and it diverges and puts you way underwater.

Reversion To the Mean (RTM) Intraday Strategies

This is an interesting thread that has a lot of potential. In my experience, when trading correlated instruments, it is important to understand the nature of their relationship (oscillation vs. trend) when assigning a mean. If the instrument is a trender, 200 SMA, if it is a chopper, 20...

    Opening Orders - 2009

Ordinarily, when everyone is getting frustrated with a strategy, eg. OPG Strategy, I see it as the time that it is most likely swing back and start working again. I wonder if this time is different? Volume is moving away from the primary markets, specialists moving upstairs (SLPs) or out of...

If the OPG strategy is not dead, the edge has gotten VERY thin at best.

    'Prop" then drop

Running a prop firm/arcade/whatever-the-hell-you-want-to-call-it has risks and should be a profitable business. You are trusting traders with a ton of leverage and leverage goes up when volatility/risk is high. Attrition rates in trading are no secret, most fail, some make a bit and a select...

    Spread/Pairs charting package

Hey Eric, I think that is a little bit beyond my skill set, but I will look into it. Like a lot of software in the trading world, Esignal, Prophet X, Ensign all have good things about them, but just seem to be a little lacking. I think the ultimate situation (price-wise) would be if Ensign...

    Spread/Pairs charting package

Thanks bone, I trade equity spreads and I use a spreadsheet because esignal can be pretty unreliable (re-plotting spread candles intraday, etc.). I find that I pretty much default to my spread number in the spreadsheet and only really look at the chart for a longer term perspective. For a...

    what the hell is scalping

Nice refresher post by Pabst to clear up the locals "true" scalping edge vs. small swing trade electronic scalping. I think what many of you guys arguing about scalping/market making ( I've always called this "fishing" bids/offers) are missing is the ability of a professional trader to lean...

    Spread/Pairs charting package

Wondering if anyone can steer me into the right direction. I'm a current Esignal user. It does the trick for the most part but I need a charting package that can chart spreads more accurately. Esignal uses only the open and close of the underlying symbols to calculate the spread and...

How do you handle big draw-downs the next day?

bwolinsky, Congrats on your achievement. I hope that your pairs system is making you lots of money. But dude, there are lots of discretionary traders making a shit load of money. It might not be your bag, but that has nothing to do with other people's results. As a side note, I would...

How do you handle big draw-downs the next day?

I would tend to agree with Robert Weinstein and IShopAtPublix sentiments. 4k probably isn't the end of the world if you are making $1000 per day average. Simple answer is trade what is in front of you. Only you have a memory, the market doesn't. However, if the losing streak continues, don't...

    Minimum required capital

All excellent points. This guy really nails the difference between what some people might have done and what is actually a reasonably repeatable blueprint in a profession that already has a high failure rate -- never mind adding the handicap of a underfunded account. If you have traded for a...
