Under MTM, is income taxed at a lower rate than capital gains?

Ok then. BTW. For anything tax related visit the appropriate government related sites, easier than sifting through what is most probably rubbish on the net. cheers

Under MTM, is income taxed at a lower rate than capital gains?

If it's a site purely for educational purposes than my apologies, it's just that as soon as I hit the link about half a dozen pops ups hit my screen and I found it very difficult to leave the page. BTW I don't have any insight as to the article as I think it's US based which isn't relevant to me.

That link is pure spam!! You open it and your PC is at risk which is blantantly obvious. Now either you know this which is why you posted it or you were unaware which is a real worry.

How would you run a stock up?

I've always wondered why the pumpers on the message boards are so bleeding obvious. It's like there trying to attract the complete morons instead of the masses, if they wen't about it in a different way they could really clean up.

    Canadian trading tax

thanks for that bit of info. It's the first time I heard the term unincorporated buisness, I'm new to the Canadian system and my accountant didn't mention it. Is it just another way of saying you are operating a buisness of trading and therefore taxed as an income instead of CG? If so is it...

    Canadian trading tax

As an individual conducting a buisness of trading. I meet the criteria to be deemed as day trader status and apparently you don't need a buisness name

    Canadian trading tax

I've pretty much got clarification that I'll be able to file as a buisness of trading due to the frequency and nature of my trades which means it's just reporting the P/L for the year, apparently thats the equivalent of 'Mark-Market' nomination. Apparently there is cut off date though, which...

    Canadian trading tax

I'm confused so would like to hear from any knowledgable traders on the matter of tax and trading in Canada. I have searched the net, spoken to a CRA rep and received info from my accountant but all seem to conflict one another in one way or the other. As a permanent resident of Canada I'm an...

    Options education question

I traded ICs for years using every adjustment under the sun utilizing info from a large pool of mentors and read just about everything printed on the subject. Long story short... you can make alittle bit of money alittle at a time but the operative word is alittle, however you can lose alot...

    Adjustment for short strangle

I agree Don, knowing how gamma effects Delta and the impact of IV on your positions etc... will better position you to make the correct decision when it's time to adjust. It's also important not to over adjust, sure you can chase the UL by rolling ITM to a short guts position but you'll...

    Short strangles on stocks

OP, short strangles are like any other strategy where there is a trade off between R/R. Sure you can select stocks that are currently considered rangebound or less volatile but no strategy is fool proof and all adjustments are just that. IMO sticking with an ETF/index would be most suitable...

    Short strangles on stocks

come to think of it.. even if you had a whole range of different stocks from different sectors and say some strangles did better than others you still won't be able eliminate the risk of any one of those stocks going belly up due to a number of reasons, thats just the risk you take when trading...
