Do you know why you make money in trading?

Good money management and stops well placed (and obeying them!) For me that was much more important than any "edge" I might have :)

    Generating and Tracking Trade Ideas

Well, I trade stocks because I believe in the abundance of oportunities during the day... As i trade less than a handful of setups, futures arent simply for me. All this to say, that missing oportunities must be a good sign, as there are more oportunities than trades!! you just have to...

Trading with a Stop Loss in the Futures Market is for Losers

Maybe it works for you. Trading wthout stops would never work for me (I daytrade exclusively stocks) Call it psychological, call it whatever you want. But I need the reassurance that I have a net under my feet while trading.. Just my 5c. Best, Happy holidays!

    How Did You Get Started?

I was invited to a dinner at a trader's house. He still is the best trader I've ever met, as well as the best mentor one could wish for

Is This a Good Way to Charge Family and Friends for Mentoring?

Dont do it. As Linda Bradford Raschke states in "The new Market Wizards" if you have a valid system, it means you have a valid system that works for yourself. Simply put, teaching it to a relative doesnt mean the method will work with him/her... And when push comes to shove, it'll be your...

    What is Not an edge?

An Edge is a working system... Specially if System definition includes discipline, proper money management, etc. What I really think is an interesting discussion is not what your edge is (i think no successful trader will disclosure his/her edge) but how you came to find it. Maybe an idea...

    YHOO seems a buy now

Absolutely agree. Although my basket is a bit bigger (I follow 30 stock which made 92% of my trades last year), i follow the same principle. (Knowing your chicken so that you know when the eggs are ready) Best, vcir

    Hammering away, slow and methodical

I absolutely agree, No matter the trend, i always have some exposure on the other side (right now eleven open trades, three of which are short). It really limits your DD, and sometimes you have the extra perk of seeing all your trades going your way! All the best, vcir

    We Have Topped

I'm sorry, but i find this discussion a bit sterile... I look at the charts, and all i see is an uptrend. Most of my positions are long, and the short setups that i establish every morning dont get triggered. I keep looking for the short setups (the same way i look for the long ones in a...

    Shall we choose a portfolio???????????

Very simply... I've been having this conversation with traders from all over the world. How do you pick the stocks that make part of your portfolio, meaning which stocks do you follow on a regular basis? Thanks in advance, hopefully we will all get new ideas from this thread... Victor

    TRIN and es

The other thing you can use is a model that correlates the stregth that breaks "channel lines", such as boll. or dolch.. Normally i use a ponderated average of day volume with average volume on the past x days (the x varies with each stock) which i use very frequently on swing trading with...
