    Survey on Market Structure Confidence

Hello ET community - I'm hoping this is the right forum for this topic - I'm a student in New York wrapping up a degree program in the fall. As part of my coursework I'm doing a survey of how financial professionals view the current structure of the U.S. stock market (as it pertains to order...

JPMorgan CEO sees more bank consolidation ahead

...plus, I think the debacle over Ken Lewis being strongarmed by Paulson into buying ML has really cast a light on what happens when Uncle Sam asks you to "do your bit" for the economy. I think there will be tremendous skepticism among shareholders and boards of directors regarding due diligence...

JPMorgan CEO sees more bank consolidation ahead

I'm not sure about "jumping for joy." I mean, look at the dressing-down Dimon had to take before Congress, and all that rigmarole about bonuses for firms receiving TARP funds - they took TARP because they were *asked* to, just like they bought Bear Stearns because they were *asked* to. I'm not...

    WEHT Charlie Gasparino?

...Has he gone to rehab or something? Have seen neither hide nor tail of the Italian Stallion in weeks.

    More CNBC casualties...?

WEHT Pete Najarian on "Fast Money?" He's been conspicuously absent the past few days - did he leave with Ratigan or something? And what of Charlie Gasparino? *Nothing* from him for a long time - maybe his contract is up for renegotiation?

    Gasparino Hacking Away Again

I don't dispute that the media has fomented most of the turbulence. But they're not policymakers. The network, while irritating as all hell, is full of disclaimers about the views of its pundits not representing the views of CNBC or its parent company. Employees of CNBC aren't allowed to own any...

    Gasparino Hacking Away Again

I am no fan of CNBC, but I do think it is an appalling abuse of position for Greenspan to sit on the board of a hedge fund that is heavily short financial stocks while he pontificates on the eroding position of banks. Not to mention that this housing bubble ballooned on his watch. It's tawdry...

Manisha Thakor on CNBC right now

...this woman scares me. She is like equal parts Tammy Fae Bakker and Suze Orman with a little ethnic spice. Way over the top.

    Those "I am CNBC..." commercials

I cringe and feel viscerally embarrassed for the CNBC talking heads in these commercials that run throughout the trading day, in which stylized head shots of "the talent" plays along with a voice-over enumerating their likes and dislikes. Are they trying to become "relatable" to the viewing...

    Madoff client list

...But Madoff ran this vehicle for decades. Do you mean that it was a scheme to give wealthy investors a write-off in years other than 2008?

    Madoff client list

I tried to start a new thread about this, but I suppose I will just post to this - further to the media reports today that Madoff's attorney Ira Sorkin was on the list of clients/victims, how on earth does it not constitute a conflict of interest for Mr. Sorkin to continue representing Madoff at...

Question about Madoff's lawyer and victims list

Media are reporting today that on the list of Madoff's investors/victims was his own lawyer, Ira Sorkin. Now, I'm no legal eagle here, but does anyone have any ideas as to how this does *not* constitute a conflict of interest for Mr. Sorkin representing Madoff in any criminal or civil...

    SAXO Bank 2009 Predictions

Currency volatility is usually a positive for Saxo Bank, because they rack up the commissions that way. They have diversified away from that trading model in recent years (into PWM, which led me to question possible Madoff exposure), and there is no shortage of shady characters under their awning.

    SAXO Bank 2009 Predictions

They're a private company so it's very hard to scrutinize their numbers, and they're known for propagandizing and manipulating what's said about them in the public domain. I wondered if they might have some exposure to Madoff, via their fairly dubious "private wealth management" segment...

    SAXO Bank 2009 Predictions

Is there really a rumor that Saxo Bank is going bust? Details, please.

If the IBKR stock keeps tanking, what will happen to my account?

What is UP with IBKR being so far DOWN today?? New 52-week low, big boost in implied vol, heavy put activity. What's up with that?

Guys, is something up with MF Global?

Anyone else seeing evidence of selling in December 2.50 calls? Can't find any news about what might be going on with them.

Had to post this - Student loan fugitives

...I agree that there is value in a well-rounded education, but if it's going to be compulsory then why make it on *my* dime? Why not require "Descriptive Astronomy" as part of the *high school* curriculum, something that's publicly funded, and require me to pass that course proficiently enough...

Had to post this - Student loan fugitives

Education needs to be made a profitable enterprise again, pure and simple. There needs to be a clearer risk/reward profile for the average college degree. I also think we have *got* to get away from this university-centric model that encourages students to *waste* precious time and tuition...

Had to post this - Student loan fugitives

I suspect that student loan agencies harass student borrowers for the same reason that student-ghetto landlords harass their broke-ass tenants - because they know if they raise enough cain, the parents will shell out at some point.
