What are the 8AM Premarket Spikes?

Hey Suntrader I don't think what you shared is the same. For one this is not through IB, also these are happening early morning, not in the closing auction.

What are the 8AM Premarket Spikes?

Yes I'm just trying to understand exactly what is going on. I'll post pictures of the time and sales when I'm back to my computer but these prices are tagged as D for distribution. A simple Google search will give you a very non descriptive definition, trying to find more clarity.

What are the 8AM Premarket Spikes?

Thanks for the replies guys. I actually have a snapshot of the time and sales from this morning during that time. it looks like many of these trades were coded d for distribution, not sure what that means. Are these late prints from a larger block trade? Are these tradable?

What are the 8AM Premarket Spikes?

Thanks Guru, I was hoping that wasn't the case. Going to investigate closer tomorrow morning trying a few different routes, my assumption is either something like you mentioned is going on or the routing we are using is being internalized and not routing anywhere. For example see attached...

Trading during premarket - stop loss

It may depend on your broker but stop limit orders don't work either. The stops don't release. Premarket use limit orders only. Reason being is very thin liquidity, you could really get hurt with a market order hence they are prohibited for your best interest.

What are the 8AM Premarket Spikes?

Thanks for the reply TrailerParkTed. That's what I'm wondering is why would we not get filled, what is actually happening?

What are the 8AM Premarket Spikes?

If you look at things such as QQQ, SPY and many stocks you'll see a spike at 8am. The last 2 days I had orders out (granted not sitting at ARCA or NASDAQ) but through a smart order router provided by our broker. Both days price traded through and past my limit order during this spike without...

How can i bring this system to the next level

I would be happy to look at it in this regard. We have execution, colocation, funding, and unbeatable commissions if you can prove your strategy.

How can i bring this system to the next level

In your simulated testing how are your fills being assumed on your limit orders? I wrote a system that performed beautifully in a simulated environment with a win rate in the mid 70% range, average winner 50% larger than average loser etc but the simulated environment gave me a fill when price...

For my manual trading I use this. Albeit I have some code that filters same price out of the feed, meaning my chart only moves if price changes thus no flat spots.

Switch from IB to NinjaTrader brokerage (Dorman Trading)?

I am currently with Interactive Brokers and now that they are getting out of the forex market am considering switching to NT brokerage with Dorman Trading as I move to futures. The commission breakdown is as follows for both per contract: IB - 0.85 NT (Continuum)- 0.63 NT (Rithmic)- 0.78...

New to futures coming from forex, few questions...

Thanks for your response xela. You are correct that ES is very slow compared to the other instruments now that I have some time watching a few of them. My comments about EURUSD being slow attended from the fact that I use a single tick chart not x ticks so if the market is active it moves, if...

New to futures coming from forex, few questions...

Thanks wrbtrader, we are both in agreement here. I have no intention of live trading and figuring it out as I go. I'm actively watching a few of the more popular instruments in futures at the moment while adaptive everything from currencies over. I will say that after some time watching other...

New to futures coming from forex, few questions...

Thanks i960, I believe you are correct in regards to IB and how their feed works. Surprising for such a large broker. I'm not familiar with Sierra Charts but will look into it. Thanks for your input.

New to futures coming from forex, few questions...

Thanks again for the reply. I believe the issue is similar to what i960 states, I think IB sends their data in batches every x ms. With that being the case most people won't notice if x is low but trading on a single tick chart its very noticeable. My manual style consists of a mix of...

New to futures coming from forex, few questions...

Thanks for this great response DirectMarketAccess. I appreciate you taking the time. I currently have an account with IB but what I am finding is their feed is quite slow and not good enough when trading off of a tick chart. Sometimes the chart delays and all of a sudden an influx of data...

    IB traders

Back when I traded with London Capital Group I was able to negotiate commissions. Doesn't help you with IB but could be an option.

Can you open an account with a foreign fx broker for your offshore company if you're a US person?

Correct, I didn't say it was illegal. I'm saying if your goal is to try to use a foreign corporation for trading purposes there is still a kyc (know your customer) process in which a brokerage will want to know any controlling party of that foreign corporation that owns more than 25% usually...
