    Amzn

With VIX under 20 and AMZN at implied volatility low (52-week), an October combination/straddle purchase might be a good speculation. Many other stocks at historic/implied vol lows, btw.

    IB Server Question

No one on this board has verified that they are accessing IB now through SZ or HK. If trade executions are routed through NY for all servers, it makes no difference if you select a non-U.S. server.

    Power Outage

Good question HTrader. Are any traders currently up through Switzerland or HK?

meditation as a way to calm trading angsts

Anything that enhances mental discipline is helpful to a trader- particularly if you consistently trade "solo" without other interactions (other traders, TV, websites, etc.) as I do.

    Barron's Online Brokerage Review

The lack of an integrated charting platform in IB is a real shame. Even though I have an IB account, I rarely use it for this reason (and yes, I am aware of all the third party charting options-have tried them all). It is such a no brainer I wonder why they haven't done it yet? Agree that...

    Charting Software for Pair Trading

After much trial and error with many programs (including those mentioned here), I use Sierra charts with IB data for all ratios/spreads and have constructed well over 300 custom ratio charts. Has been very reliable and easy to customize (through Sierra's worksheet application). Amazing this...

    Pairs Trading Strategy Model

Currently on INTC/ALTR (higher correlation + high fundamental skew- earnings expectations and profit margins). Considering TXN/XLNX (analogs). On GLG/MDG as of close. Earnings can be the best time to enter these spreads- IF volaitlity breaks your way. My biggest wins have been during earnings.

    Options Software <HELP> !

I checked this out. Looks very interesting though definitely geared to the professional options trader. The future volatility and hedge ratio calculations are more useful than any packaged product I've seen. Some real potential here...I'm going to beta this and try to get additional scanning...

Stock Watch Pro Backtesting is Pathetic!!!!

You might try this: http://www.wealth-lab.com Also, I agree. Any rigorous testing doesn't hold up in SWP. A maddening program for those who like to use their time efficiently. Good luck.

    volatility plays?

I filter by strategy- not specifically interested in a particular asset. I will trade it if it makes sense to me. I try to stick with assets that have decent liquidity, and most of my holdings are hedged. At the moment, I am finding good calendar spreads, short straddles, long butterflies...

    volatility plays?

Well Aaron, I don't mean to be taciturn but that is a question that could fill up a book or two. The basic idea is to track 1)historical volatility (statistical volatility for purests): historical volatility and future volatility are based on the movement of an underlying asset, and 2) implied...

    volatility plays?

I've been selling vol like crazy this month. Good to look at the other side of the coin. I will watch these strikes over the next few days to get a feel for it. Good one.

    Trading in Hawaii

Yep. I haven't even thought of the speed of my connection until asked on this thread. I have other issues related to trading discipline that are more pressing- perfect weather, string bikinis, and the golf course across the street.......

    Trading in Hawaii

A couple of years ago, I noticed a slowdown in my dial-up account and did a ping test. Bottleneck was in the Bay Area. Since using DSL, however, have not had execution/lag issue that I can discern. My trading style is not scalping or playing the spread, so even a delay of a second or two...

    Trading in Hawaii

Can't speak for others but I have never had a problem. DSL is $30/mo. Lost my connection once in the last four years during a big storm.
