VBA is a toy. If you wanna go for something serious get into vc++ or c#. Especially C# is really easy to learn once you get the basic idea about classes etc. Additionaly the CrystalReports support and direct accessing any kind of databases makes it really easy to start out with for beginners

I haven't tried it with Sterling, but with Echotrader2 (Instaquote). I'm currently working on some software that accesses it's data and as well can post orders over the API. Data is requested over DDE

I like it pretty much as it's fast, order routing speed is excellent. It's basically a modified version of instaquote. They've added a few things which improve the manageability.

why everyone always thinks he needs to have the top notch hardware for being able to trade. It all depends on what your style is like. You using tons of charts? then i'd go for more ram. I'm using 512mb, but 256 would be sufficient as well with winxp. Trading software generally doesn't waste...

you can do it with either excel or access. But i'd rather have the trades in a self written database and with php the way i let display my account statement, draw graphs, adjust things, etc. is unlimited.
