What does a trend follower do in a bear market?

Many things wrong here. First, if you are long trend only, what is your defn of a trend? If defn is not met, then stay out. Second, using a percent loss has not basis in the real world. Why not use something based on price action. Third, if you are stopped out, what tells you a bull trend...

    Question on Broker reserve/buffer funds

A while back I saw a chart of futures brokers with information on their size and the amount of funds they held as a buffer as a safeguard for clients funds should something happen to cause the broker to lose a large sum. I thought it was somewhere here on ET, but can not find it. Any guidance...

How does a trend start? How is a trend born?

Like the ocean waves on the shore at high and low tide. The waves are random in size, shape and duration, but the tide trends to and fro. Price does the same.........

    The S&P 500 has topped at 2430 on 6/1/17

Sure it can. You agree that entering a trade with minimal confirmations is high risk? Do you then also agree that the closer you enter to the last swing high (for a short trade), the lower your $ risk will be, assuming you place your stop just past that swing point....

    The S&P 500 has topped at 2430 on 6/1/17

I'm not concerned with all the other "well timed" calls. Entering a short trade before a swing lower low and lower high, is high risk, but also offers the lowest initial risk. Must be ready to exit quickly, and wait.........

    The S&P 500 has topped at 2430 on 6/1/17

Well....I am with you now. The drop in the oil market over the last couple of days has yet to show it's effects on equities, but It may be the straw. Got short this morning.

    The S&P 500 has topped at 2430 on 6/1/17

Thanks, of course my follow up question is how are you determining "bullishness" in only those 4 sectors. Not being a jerk, just trying to understand your view. Thanks,

Investors are increasingly looking for that overdue selloff in stocks

Pekelo, at this point on what do you base the 15th as the turning point? No confirmed lower lows have been made. Similar to many pauses we have seen over the past few years it seems.

    reading the MACD line

Thank you for the charts. I will not try further to dissuade you. You are where I was about 30 years ago. I wish I could save you some time, but we all must discover our own truths. As for me, only in recent years becoming profitable, after totally getting rid of indicators, guru's, etc. I...

    reading the MACD line

Rufus, it seems to me that you are just looking for newbies, as you have given your contact information and social media information in your first post. Why not just post some charts showing how and when and on what instruments your methodology works. All indicators are proxies for price, all...

    reading the MACD line

So did any number of other oscillator/ma type indicators. They also gave just as many false signals. Play with the parameters and you can find what you believe to be true....

    reading the MACD line

Consider the price action of an index to be the trail on which you ride. The horse you ride is named MACD. It does not matter if you measure the stride of each leg, the number of snorts it makes or how if flips it's tail.........it knows nothing of the trail over the hill..........

    Where did NoDoji go?

I have not been following this board much lately, but noticed that one person I used to enjoy seems to have deleted herself from the posts, and history. Can anyone update me?
