Weird question - would a hedge fund ever go short on a stock to keep price down...

One more! What if they knew or even thought an acquisition was about to happen. Even had a tip off? I did some checking into this hedge fund, back in 2015 they opened a short on a pharma company and started a big selloff. Stock bounced back fast over a couple of days then the takeover was...

Weird question - would a hedge fund ever go short on a stock to keep price down...

Alright, what about they know who the large holders are and are expecting a sell off from one of them. That on top of the current low volume could be enough to get a bear raid going or a temporary pull back at least? You could work out when funds will sell off as the position size has growth...

Weird question - would a hedge fund ever go short on a stock to keep price down...

Alright, what about this. Say we have a stock where volume has turned really low, and has had a huge selloff lately, scaring off the market. Small cap. Stock reverses say at 200p, and for the next 6 weeks you slowly build a position up to 300p. Walking it up super slow and careful, making it...

Weird question - would a hedge fund ever go short on a stock to keep price down...

Right, this stock has been strongly uptrending for over 6 weeks, and the news the market is expecting on sales is coming. Also the company surprised the market with a whole bunch of news about govt. partnerships and developments etc. The price is likely to be significantly higher by end of...

Weird question - would a hedge fund ever go short on a stock to keep price down...

This stock is behaving weird. Today it closed at 4% down, then at uncrossing jumps up to over 2% up. Okay UT a bit higher or lower is normal, but 6% isn't. Then it stays at 2% up after closing auction. Big plays happening in background and I don't get it.

It's a pretty small company, maybe 200 mill market cap?

Weird question - would a hedge fund ever go short on a stock to keep price down...

...while building a long position? Not even sure the question really makes sense, but not familiar with all the ways shorts are used. I've seen a weird short by Voleon, on a stock which is about to release a stream of sales and partnerships news. Really looks like it will be pretty big over...

Getting really frustrated, can't find a fully featured UK trading platform

I set up the account around the time I made this thread. Didn't like it. The whole process was overly burdensome, and that's because essentially you're setting up a bank account with them. Whole thing was more hassle without any real upside.

Anyone good with Trader Workstation? Need help setting up chart appearance

Yeah, I'm considering it. I have accounts with IG and HL but to move cash from either of them would mean I'd be unable to trade it for 2 or 3 days, so really want to be sure I like TWS before committing. I put £100 in IB to pay for data subs but they messaged me today saying it's a no go. Need...

Anyone good with Trader Workstation? Need help setting up chart appearance

Out of all the charts I've used I find I'm most comfortable with IG's new web platform but am in the process of moving over to TWS. Is there a way I can get my charts to look more like IG's? TWS seems to have a lot of options so maybe I'm missing it. IG Intraday 1min TWS Intraday 1min

AIM's are exempt though. Have been for about 5 or 6 years now.

Graantx, after poking around a lot more yesterday I'm starting to see what you mean. Spent ages trying to get a volatility scanner going yesterday. There was a premade IV one but wasn't giving me what I wanted. Everything's definitely really messy in settings.

Got it working. My TWS was set to North America, changed to Europe and restarted and was able to get the browser redirect going to the subscription pages. Just leaving it here in case anyone has this issue in future.

What would your top 3 pet peeves be? Really want to know what I'm getting into. Youtube videos make everything look rosy, but that's rarely the case. There's always something!

UK Traders using IB - experiences?

It's pricey though, I think it's around 100 euros a month for the PRT sub with data options. Was really hoping TWS could do the same job but for less, though can't work out the cost, the page for subscribing is broken for me when I go to click though on the TWS platform.

UK Traders using IB - experiences?

CFD only with IG linked to PRT, one of the reasons I'm looking for another platform. PRT has all the features though, if I could trade regular stocks on it I'd hang around. I know IB and PRT can be linked, but something put me off, forget what now (been looking and testing so many platforms I'm...

UK Traders using IB - experiences?

Currently have regular trading and investing accounts with IG and HL. Also have some other accounts which I toy around with in demo and aren't funded. Anyway, I'm close to pulling the trigger and funding IB and using their TWS platform as my main trading account. Seems to be an upgrade over IG...

Difference between CCP and non-CCP listed stocks on FTSE?

Noticed there's two types of SETSqx stocks on FTSE AIM, CCP and non-CCP. At first I took CCP (central counterparty clearing house) to be some regulatory term for the equivalent of market maker but now I'm not so sure. LSE's website...

Getting really frustrated, can't find a fully featured UK trading platform

I'll take a look at Admiral and see what's on offer there. Doing the rounds again this morning. There's always something missing it seems. Waiting for my Fineco bank account to finish setup this morning. Easily the most convoluted and out of date setup out of any platform so far. Had about 4 or...
