    TWS Java version

Thank you. Originally, I thought maybe a recent version of Java was normally downloaded and installed during the TWS installation, but that's not true. No biggie. I keep a log of my TWS updates and offline TWS installs and noticed the Java version has not changed in a year. Thanks again.

    TWS Java version

I completely uninstalled and reinstalled TWS, dumped the Jts directory, and removed the Java files in C:\Program Files\Common Files\i4j_jres. Reinstalled offline version 981.2t and it installed the same Java version 1.8.0_152. So I guess IB hasn't updated the Java inside of the TWS in a while.

    TWS Java version

Thx. In TWS, go to the Help Menu and down to the bottom- About Trader Workstation. The version is in there. I don't use stand alone Java either and TWS has never updated the orig Java version it installed even though I installed/updated TWS many times since the first TWS. Yeah. Even though I...

    TWS Java version

Thanks. So everyone with a recent version of TWS is using Java 1.8.0_152? EDIT: No. It can't be. That Java version was installed in April 2020 when I installed TWS fresh on a new PC. In Program Files / Common Files, I see the folder: 1.8.0_152-tzdata2019c Any way to update the Java? Maybe I...

    TWS Java version

Quick question. I've been running TWS for a few years. Does the Java install fresh with each install and update of TWS? Lately, I've been installing the stand alone TWS and the Java version after a year is still 1.8.0_152. Is that the latest that's installed on yours as well? Is there any way...

Newbie here looking to learn a strategy

I guess "solid" in "solid trading plan" is the key. Learning to follow the plan is hard for me. If you don't physically set a hard stop and target, then emotions are still in play. EDIT: I know I'm getting off topic, but do brokerages see your stops and targets set?

Newbie here looking to learn a strategy

Exactly. I've been trading for 3 years and STILL, the most difficult thing for me is training my mind, training my emotion and developing patience. Controlling emotions or programming my mind to react a certain way is still VERY difficult. I guess in time, it gets better. Things I'm still...

    IB not working

The issue I have with the TWS Charts (and it's been a TWS problem for ever) is they don't maintain the proper "Time Period". If I set a chart to display "8 Hours/5 minutes" (which is supposed to display a 5 minute chart for the last 8 hours), it does not maintain the 8 hour window. After a...

Need help with ADV, V, & ADVn

I'm looking at this volume indicator in the Quote Details on TWS (See screenshot). Can someone please explain this to me? The mouseover balloon says the small white horizontal line is the Average Daily Volume (ADV). The thin grey vertical bar is the Current Volume (V). And the white thick...

Problem is not TWS self, rather the IBKR servers...

With 8GB allocated, does TWS ram usage ever get close to that? I have 3GB allocated (System 20GB) and TWS (979.4f) never uses more than 1.5-1.6GB RAM even if it's been loaded for 7 hours. I notice charts never move to the same frequency as the bid/ask changes. The charts' price is stagnant for...

    Adjust volume chart height

I tried to change the name as well to reorder. Changing the name makes it's legend even bigger. Oh well. Thanks for confirming.

    Adjust volume chart height

I have another question about the Studies subchart display. Is there a way to reorder the studies that are below the main chart? I see they're locked into alphabetical order as far as I can see (excluding the built-in Volume indicator which is always above all other subchart indicators) Thx.

    Adjust volume chart height

Same method with studies... you have a choice between Large Medium and Small. When you're in the Chart Parameters' Studies tab, on the right you set the plot height. What I would like to know is how to remove / hide study legends in subcharts. You can hide the legend in the main chart (ex...

PDT in IRA cash account <25k

I agree. Definitely. I'm going to have a mixture. No scalping though. The settlement period doesn't bother me nearly as much as the PDT rule. Thanks for your help.

PDT in IRA cash account <25k

    Yes.

PDT in IRA cash account <25k

Exactly ...AFAIK. So when an IRA is under 25k, do you want no settlement (margin acct)? Or no PDT rule (cash acct)? That's the way I look at it since you can't short anyway. You can long inverse/leveraged ETFs.

PDT in IRA cash account <25k

A IRA Margin account is limited. Can't short. I'd rather trade more often and have a settlement period. When I'm over 25k, then a margin account makes sense.

PDT in IRA cash account <25k

Thanks. I have a IRA cash account now. With a cash account, are unsettled funds included in your portfolio balance? EDIT: Stupid question--- of course they are! Now I understand what you're saying.

PDT in IRA cash account <25k

That's what I thought but got conflicting info from IB and other sources.. So the answer to my first question in my original post is Yes? EDIT: (As long as settled cash is available to trade.)
