Prop Today vs 10 Years Ago?

With the market conditions for much of 2013, looking for smaller moves with larger size and doing fewer trades has been the easier way to go.

    Friends and Family Accounts

I just wanted to stress that in the past the SEC has interpreted a similar "hold itself out" provision pretty broadly so most websites would be extremely bare bones so as not to contain information about the adviser's services. The idea is to not let it be known generally that you are available...

There is an exemption from having to register as an investment adviser for "Foreign Private Advisers" as defined in Section 202(a)(30) of the Investment Advisers Act of 1940. To qualify you must not have any place of business in the U.S., you cannot have more than 14 U.S. people as clients, you...

    Friends and Family Accounts

This isn't exactly true. There is a big difference between not needing to register a securities offering vs. not needing to register as an investment adviser. You need to make sure you comply with all these laws (and regulations made under each of them), plus their state law equivalents...

    Friends and Family Accounts

There is a lot of incomplete/outdated information on websites (such as the 15 client thing). If you're ever planning to trade money for somebody else in the United States for compensation you should consult a lawyer. Each state has its own separate rules too in addition to the federal laws &...

    New Fund Performance Fee Structure

Depending on which state you and the other people are in (if you are in the U.S.) there could be regulations that could limit your ability to receive compensation like that. Make sure you double check all the state laws and regulations regarding investment advisers and/or consult an attorney.

    Trading for others

A lot depends on what state you live in. If you're receiving some sort of compensation for the trading and are doing it as a business activity you might need to register as an investment adviser. See your state's securities regulator website for more info on what its requirements are. Different...

    Help with Mixing Timeframe

One thing to consider is maybe doing just a really simple/crude version of intraday chart analysis to try to enter at a slightly better place. For example you could experiment with a rule where you will only enter a swing trade when an oscillator like RSI on the 5-minute or 15-minute chart is...

    Internet 1999 = Fed 2013

For the U.S. you can download investor fund flow data at www.ici.org/research/stats/flows. There have been some meaningful inflows the last 3 months but it's only about 20% of the amount of money that sold equities the last 2 years. From May 2011 to December 2012, 19 out of 20 months had...

    Internet 1999 = Fed 2013

Judging from the light volume this month there really aren't tons of buyers up here - just the absence of many large aggressive sellers. The majority of market participants are more in wait & see mode vs. just piling in with big volume. Also, unlike the Internet bubble, the general public...

    how to find liquid stocks?

There are different degrees of liquidity. Usually a good place to start would be scanning for stocks that only trade an even higher number of shares per day on average like 2 million or 5 million. Those tend to have tight spreads and more posted limited orders (and less slippage with market orders).
