    Trading in Thailand

Yabz, Thanks for the info. on IPstar. I have heard from a few other people that the problem with satellite is that it frequently goes down or loses packets, especially in the rainy season. Have you experienced this also? I assume if staying in a condo in BKK, satellite would only be an...

    Trading in Thailand

Mokwit, Thanks for your reply and detailed information. I appreciate it. Since that last post, I have learned many of these things on my own, especially the discrepency between the stated and the actual speed rates. However, the one thing I was not aware of is the new Phuket broadband...

    Trading in Thailand

Nana trader, Thank you for your input. After spending the past two days researching the logistics of trading from Phuket, I have come to the same conclusion as your recommendation. It seems better to trade from BKK instead because internet connectivity in Phuket just does not seem up to...

    Trading in Thailand

I just returned from a 1-month visit to Thailand and spent time in both Bangkok and Phuket. Quite simply, I fell in love with many aspects of the country and am planning on spending several months there on my next visit later this year. As such, I hope that some members on this thread may be...

    Why actively trade ETFs?

Although there is not yet an ETF that tracks gold and silver prices, I wanted to post my thoughts on something interesting that I noticed last week. As many of you know, I have personally been bullish on not only gold and silver mining stocks over the past several months, but also gold and...

    Why actively trade ETFs?

Hello IndexTrader, No, we are not. We closed out the remaining shares at 60.30 for a gain of + 2.25 points last week. I apologize for not posting the results of the remaining shares. Anyway, I wish we were still in the trade! OIH took off like a freaking rocket today, as you probably...

    Why actively trade ETFs?

We took profits on half the position of OIH at 58.70 today, netting a gain of + 0.65. However, we remain long half the position with a stop at 58.20, and a target that remains at 60.50 area. Just an update. . .

    Why actively trade ETFs?

We don't really do any fundamental analysis, but we do try to keep the big picture in mind because it will ultimately affect the likelihood of the technical setup working properly. Since commodities are indeed strong right now, that should aid OIH, although it has lagged other commodities over...

    Why actively trade ETFs?

Below are the details for a possible trade we have our eyes on today. Explanation follows below the chart. As always, do your own analysis: OIH - Oil Services HOLDR Long Trigger = above 58.03 (above yesterday's high and the 200-day MA) Target = 60.40 (retest of prior high from...

    Why actively trade ETFs?

Cutten, Certainly, buying futures on the Nikkei is another alternative. I personally do not trade any futures contracts, but it is always a viable option. I like the weighting of the companies that comprise EWJ, as it is different than the Nikkei itself. You can check it out on...

    Why actively trade ETFs?

BBH just broke out to new high of day, so we are selling half the position into strength at 132.90 area, in order to lock in gain of approx. + 2.3 points. Also raising stop to 131.50 on the second half of the position. Just an update for those following along. . .

    Why actively trade ETFs?

Per the previous post, we bought BBH at 130.60 area this morning and now have an unrealized gain of + 2 points today. As such, we are raising the stop to 130.50 area (near breakeven) to eliminate the risk from the trade. Target still near 135, so we have about 2.5 points to go.

    Why actively trade ETFs?

FYI, we are targeting BBH for a potential swing trade on the long side today. After months of lagging the broad market, the Biotechs and BBH showed relative strength yesterday. BBH in particular closed above its 50-day moving average for the first time since October 14. It also broke the...

    Why actively trade ETFs?

Just sold 1/2 of PPH at 75.46 for + 1.26 points. Still long 1/2 position. Watch that 200-day MA overhead. Still short RTH also

    Why actively trade ETFs?

tradersaavy, I like PPH a lot. In fact, we bought PPH this morning at 74.20, based on a break of the primary daily downtrend line, a double bottom, and break of moving average resistance. Individual leaders of PPH showed great volume on the reversal yesterday, which is indicative of sector...

    Why actively trade ETFs?

FYI, you may want to check out EWJ, which is the ETF that tracks a large basket of Japanese equities. Long-time subscribers to our newsletter will recall that we have been bullish on the long-term prospects of Japan since the beginning of this year. Since coming out of its 21-year bear market...

    Why actively trade ETFs?

Hi Dave, Glad to hear you are checking out SMH and some of the other ETFs. I think you'll find some of the same benefits that I like about them. To answer your first question about order routing, I generally use ARCA, which is probably similar to IB's BEST order routing. ARCA first looks...

    Why actively trade ETFs?

You're certainly right that you have to look harder to find good risk/reward setups. Looking for sector rotation and relative strength/weakness seems to be working the best, but there still tends to often not be much follow-through. Avoiding the broad-market ETFs is key right now.
